There's a lot of history packed into those original 12GCG sessions, so we had to bring the album back to its birthplace.
This billboard truck rolled through the Nashville 4th of July crowd last weekend, bringing Gener and Deaner's finest country tracks back to the heart of Music City.
The expanded 36-track Deluxe Edition lands on July 31st. Hit the link in the bio to pre-order 🚛
In August 1995 the world lost Jerry Garcia. A few months later, while down in Nashville tracking 12 Golden Country Greats with the legendary session guys, Gener wrote So Long Jerry as a deeply respectful eulogy and a thank you to a massive inspiration. 🌹
The song didn't make the album, but it ended up as a B-side on the You Were the Fool / Piss Up a Rope maxi-single, released exclusively in Australia in July 1996.
The cover art featured a generic corporate handshake stock photo. The guys were deep into using random stock images around this time, and this one was likely pulled from an old 90s CD-ROM. The original, unedited source photo has never been found, leaving its exact origin lost to time.
During the 1995 Nashville sessions with the area's legendary session players, the tracklist was completely fluid. An early studio lineup shared by producer Ben Vaughn shows that the album started out with a full dozen songs, though "Japanese Cowboy" was not in the lineup just yet. At this point in development, "Powder Blue" was still spelled "Powder Bleu," and lost cuts like "I've Got No Darkside" and "So Long Jerry" were still actively in the running. The full story of those sessions finally comes to light on the upcoming Deluxe Edition of 12 Golden Country Greats dropping July 31st, which expands the album into a massive 36-track collection. Check the link in the bio to stream the newly released second single "Boston Chicken" and secure a pre-order or some exclusive merch.
Ahead of leaving for Nashville to cut 12 Golden Country Greats, Gener and Deaner were busy working on a whole set of pre-album demos. "Bad Day in Brownsville" was tracked back in 1995 right in the thick of those early sessions. It never made the journey down south, and the tape was tucked away for decades. We recently pulled it out of the vault, uncovering a few other mystery tracks time forgot. There are no notes left on the missing tracks, but they absolutely rip. There’s a whole lot more tape where this came from.
For those who haven’t had a chance to check it out yet, here’s a reminder that pre-orders for 12 Golden Country Greats (Deluxe Edition) are live. We originally had a limit on Bolo ties and candles, but have reopened orders due to the high demand. If you missed your chance to grab them, they’re available again now.
Just a heads-up: the Powder Blue vinyl is almost gone. While we’re still taking orders for the gear, once the vinyl is sold out, it’s gone for real.
