My documentary about Yingzong's second reign, the Tianshun era (1457–1464), is nearly ready!
You'll discover how the deposed emperor, after spending years under house arrest, is restored to the throne, only to be almost overthrown once again by the very men who brought him back... With the end of the Tianshun era, the Ming will finally stabilise after years of turmoil unleashed by the Tumu Crisis :)
After a few postal delays, I've finally received my Silver Play Button Award! My deepest thanks again to each and every one of you for your support over the years, and for helping the channel reach this incredible milestone!!
Stay tuned for my coverage of Yingzong's second reign, coming out this weekend :)
I have completed my Jingtai Emperor video!
The Mongols have captured the Emperor and are marching on Beijing… the desperate Ming dynasty must overcome this crisis or be defeated. But even if it survives, how will the court handle the issue of an imprisoned emperor? The Jingtai reign will be one of survival, brotherly rivalry, and coups…

Hello dear subscribers!
I’m happy to announce I’ve finished my video on Emperor Yingzong of Ming!
How does a prosperous empire begin to decline?
How does a eunuch rise to dominate imperial power?
How does an emperor end up a prisoner of war, leaving a dynasty in utter crisis?
Hello everyone!
My documentary about the Xuande emperor is nearly ready! A competent and engaged ruler, as well as a talented artist and patron of the arts, his reign marks the final golden age of the Ming dynasty and the culmination of its early phase.
Coming out this weekend— stay tuned!
Hello dear subscribers!
I'm excited to say I've completed my new documentary about the Hongxi Emperor! Despite a very brief reign, squeezed between two great emperors, the Hongxi era remains a fundamental link in the Ming dynasty’s imperial lineage.
Coming out tomorrow — stay tuned!
Hello everyone!
I’m happy to announce I’ve successfully completed my PhD, and am back to working on videos for the channel! Thank you all for your patience.
Coming up next will be my Hongxi Emperor video, as we continue to expand the Ming dynasty series 😊 Thanks for sticking around. See you in 2026, and Happy New Year!!
Hello dear subscribers!
Here’s a bit of news about the channel’s immediate future. As some of you may have picked up from replies to comments, I’m currently working on a PhD, which I’ll be finishing at the end of this year. Over the past few years, most of my time outside of my studies has been dedicated to making videos for the channel. But as I enter the final, critical stretch, I need to give it my full focus. I therefore can’t guarantee other videos will be completed until then — I hope you understand.
The good news: starting in 2026, I’ll have all the time and freedom to fully devote myself to History of China — which I hope to turn into a professional project.
I have big ambitions for this channel and greatly appreciate you all.
Thanks for following!
