The Voices of War
Hi everyone — a quick update.
I’m stepping away from the podcast for a while. What began as a break forced on me by family illness has become something I’m now choosing for myself — time to recharge and focus on my own health and wellbeing.
Over the years, this podcast has introduced me to extraordinary people and conversations that I’ll always be grateful for. I never imagined it would resonate with so many of you around the world.
The Voices of War isn’t going anywhere. I’ll be back.
Thank you for staying with me through all of this. It means more than you know.
— Maz

The Voices of War
As I watch the increasingly overt amplification of religiosity around this war, an interesting though struck me. The whole ‘God’ thing is one of humanity’s most effective adaptation to shepherd the flock. It’s better than any other belief system.
The condemned, draw from it salvation,
The poorest, hope,
The comfortable, belonging,
While the most powerful, legitimacy.
Many of us, certainly globally, fall within one of these categories.
‘God’, it would seem, really is omnipotent.

— The condemned draw from it salvation

— The comfortable draw from it belonging
— The most powerful draw from it legitimacy
Most of humanity falls into at least one of these categories.
'God', it would seem, really is omnipotent.
Where do you fall in this framework?

I think #Trump will sacrifice US soldiers to try to unite the country. Or at least galvanise support.
Right now, that support isn't stable — it's under domestic and international pressure. It won't hold.
They will attack. Despite his claims today.
Do you think he'll pull the trigger — and if so, when?

The Voices of War
New episode just published.
In this video I examine the escalating confrontation between Iran, Israel, and the United States, and ask a simple but important question:
If diplomatic negotiations were still underway, why did war begin?
We step back to look at the history of US–Iran tensions, the collapse of the JCPOA nuclear agreement, the competing narratives shaping the conflict, and what the latest escalation may mean for the Middle East and the wider international order.
Watch the full episode here and let me know what you think.
