A Sacred Symphony of Bhakti, Celebrating the Timeless Legacy of the Haridasas

With the grace of the Supreme and the blessings of the saintly composers who illuminated the path of devotion, our Shiva Vishnu Temple invites devotees to gather for Haridasa Day on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at the Akella Hall. This special celebration, will unfold as a heartfelt offering of music, devotion, and spiritual remembrance. From 10:30 AM to 4:00 PM, the hall will resonate with soulful renditions of Haridasa kritis through vocal music, instrumental melodies, and classical dance by talented artists and schools from across the Bay Area. Each performance will become a humble garland of devotion, offered at the lotus feet of Sri Hari, filling the atmosphere with sacred melody and reverence.

Haridasa Sahitya, also known as Dasa Sahitya, is a magnificent treasury of devotional literature composed in the Kannada language between the 12th and 17th centuries by the revered Haridasas, the humble servants of Bhagavan Vishnu. Rooted deeply in the philosophical tradition of Dvaita Vedanta, these saint poets created simple yet profoundly meaningful musical compositions called Devaranamas. Through these divine songs they transformed complex Vedic teachings into accessible expressions of devotion, guiding ordinary people toward a life of faith, humility, and righteousness. Great luminaries such as Purandara Dasa, revered as the Pitamaha or grandfather of Carnatic music, Kanaka Dasa, Vyasaraya, and Vijayadasa enriched this spiritual tradition with compositions filled with devotion to Sri Vishnu and Sri Krishna, leaving behind a legacy where philosophy flows effortlessly through music.

As the day unfolds with group presentations, classical interpretations, and inspiring musical offerings, devotees will experience not merely a cultural gathering but a sacred journey through centuries of bhakti. Each Devaranama, each kirtana, and each rhythmic composition will carry the fragrance of devotion and the wisdom of the saints who sang in loving surrender to the Bhagavan. We invite families, music lovers, and devotees to join this uplifting celebration and immerse themselves in the luminous heritage of Haridasa bhakti. May the divine grace of Sri Hari bless all who attend, filling every heart with devotion, humility, and spiritual fulfillment.

With profound reverence and anticipation, our Shiva Vishnu Temple invites all devotees to observe Maha Shivaratri on Sunday, February 15th, 2026, a night sanctified in the scriptures as the most auspicious for worship of Bhagavan Shiva. This sacred observance marks a time of spiritual awakening, when the alignment of cosmic energies supports meditation, inner stillness, and transformation. It is the Great Night when consciousness rises above ignorance, when the devotee turns inward to experience the boundless presence of Shiva Tattva.

Maha Shivaratri commemorates the divine union of Bhagavan Shiva and Divine Mother Parvati, symbolizing the harmonious balance of consciousness and Shakti. It is the night of the Jyotirlinga, when Shiva revealed Himself as an infinite pillar of light, beyond beginning and end. It is also remembered as the moment He consumed the Halahala poison to protect the universe, embodying supreme compassion and sacrifice. For yogis, this is the night of cosmic stillness, when Shiva abides as Adi Guru, guiding seekers toward liberation and higher awareness.

The temple will observe this sacred day with Suprabhatham, followed by eight Yaama Abhishekams throughout the day and night, including Mahanyasa Parayanam, Ekadasa Rudra Abhishekam, Jyotirlinga Archana, and Rajopachara Seva. Performing Abhishekam to the Shivalinga with Panchamruthams while chanting Sri Rudram is said to please Bhagavan Shiva immensely

We warmly and prayerfully invite every devotee and family to participate in this most sacred vigil. Whether joining for a single Yaama or remaining through the night, each moment offered in devotion becomes a step toward purification and grace. May this Maha Shivaratri bless all with clarity, strength, and the serene light of Lord Shiva’s eternal presence.

Shani Trayodashi is a highly auspicious observance that occurs when Trayodashi Tithi coincides with a Saturday, a day especially sacred to Bhagavan Shani. Known as the Deva of karma and justice, Shani Dev guides devotees through discipline, patience, and righteous living. This powerful day offers a meaningful opportunity to seek relief from karmic challenges and to align oneself with dharma through sincere prayer and focused worship.

The most significant aspect of this observance is the Tailabhishekam to Shani Dev. Devotees participate by carrying a kalasha filled with oil and respectfully offering it to the priest for Shani Abhishekam. This sacred act symbolizes surrender of burdens, cooling of hardships, and a heartfelt plea for grace. Tailabhishekam is especially recommended for those experiencing Sade Sati, Dhaiya, or other challenging planetary influences of Saturn. Devotees believe that offering oil with devotion helps mitigate obstacles, brings stability in career and health, and supports long term spiritual growth.

Shani Trayodashi emphasizes accountability, inner discipline, and transformation through conscious action. Observing this day through abhishekam, and prayer is believed to balance past karmas and invite Shani Dev’s just and protective blessings. Shiva Vishnu Temple invites devotees to participate in this powerful Tailabhishekam, personally carry the oil kalasha, and be part of this sacred offering. May Bhagavan Shani bless all with strength, clarity, and steady progress on the path of life.
