Happy Pride, everyone! Here are some celebratory info cards to do with the cast of Mint & Friends.
Where's Liqiorice, you may ask? Well, I struggled a bit to define him. He's a bit of a Hobie Brown situation where no single label seems to fit, haha. Don't worry tho, I'll make a special illustration for him to make up for that
Hey folks, been seeing a post circulating about animators of the last decade getting to be showrunners in their 20's (Craig McCracken, Alex Hirsch, etc.) which has put current animators struggling to even land an internship in a bit of a low mood.
Just wanted to share after seeing this that I went to see my dad yesterday, who had to give up his dream of being a musician to work in a factory but still makes albums in his spare time. Despite me never making it a career, he made a song about me being an animator.
Thanks to Thatcher & being poor in northern England in the 80's, he couldn't afford to take the leap & move to London to sign onto a label or whatever, yet everyone who knows him knows how good he is at it & how much he loves his craft even without the career recognition.
My childhood was filled with the sounds of a strumming guitar on lazy mornings & jam nights seeing friends while he played his latest song to a busy pub, and now he's made a song about the joys of animating, and it kind of hit me that despite everything, he's still proud of me.
In the wake of so much uncertainty plaguing an industry, it just kind of woke me up to the fact that you don't need to be a 20 something showrunner for your hard work to matter, because it likely already does to the right people. Your career is not what defines you.
Sorry, didn't mean to get all sappy & sentimental, but it made me appreciate things a bit more, so thank you all for sticking with me. It means more than we all probably realised.
Hey folks! There's supposed to be a video out next Saturday (23rd) but im gonna push it back to the 30th. I haven't been feeling great (physically & mentally) so I wanna properly recover first. Speak to yall soon ✌️
