Our History Underfoot explores forgotten places, old railways, canals, and historic infrastructure through walking and outdoor exploration.
These videos focus on the history we still walk over every day — often hidden in plain sight beneath our feet. From abandoned railway lines and lost stations to reservoirs, bridges, and industrial remains, each walk uncovers how the past continues to shape the landscapes around us.
This channel was previously known as Trekking Exploration. The name has changed to better reflect the shared history, slower pace, and place-based storytelling that now defines the channel.
New videos document Britain’s overlooked and disappearing past — one walk at a time.

The River Trent you see today isn't quite the river that was there before...
This fascinating aerial photograph shows the construction of the ( then ) new River Trent channel below Nottingham, alongside the former meander before the diversion was completed.
It's an incredible piece of Nottingham's history that many people have never heard about.
The full video premieres on my YouTube channel this evening, where I'll be exploring why the river was diverted, what changed, and what remains of the original river course.
I hope you'll join me!
