Welcome to Vologda Mapping. I’ve made map videos about real, fictional and alternate history since 2014! Nowadays I mainly cover currently ongoing conflicts on a weekly basis.
Ukraine proposes renaming their remaining lands in Donetsk Oblast to Donnyland in honor of Donald Trump. Perhaps as a way to gain favour and ensure continued American support.
The capital of Donnyland would be Kramatorsk and their current wartime population is around 250 000 and shrinking. Presumably Donnyland would continue to use their old flag of Donetsk Oblast, a golden sun over the black land of coal and steel.
If Russia and Ukraine make peace without a breakthrough in the frontlines, Donnyland would likely become part of a neutral demilitarized zone guarded by international forces. So perhaps this post is the first you ever hear of the future Donnylandians, a people born between Ukraine and Russia?
Here are some pictures of what Donnyland looked like before the war when it was still part of a united Donetsk Oblast. I hope to go there some day when it's safe.
The Myanmar Project may be cancelled. Here’s how to keep it alive:
Dear subscribers, you voted for the Myanmar project to be the next project on this channel and I set up a GoFundMe goal of 1000 Swedish Crowns (ca 100 USD & Euros) which would make it financially sustainable for me to at least do the initial research, make the map and start the project. This goal was reached and I have done what was promised in return.
But simultaneously, the Iran War started which I decided to prioritize as well, so now I’m covering four weekly projects and sadly it is not currently sustainable. If I have to choose a project out of Ukraine, the Sudans, Iran and Myanmar to drop, it will have to be Myanmar.
But you can help keep the Myanmar project going by donating to the dedicated fundraiser on GoFundMe. If we reach the current goal of 10 000 Swedish Crowns (ca 1000 USD/Euros), I can keep it going for a total of two months. Regardless if we reach the goal or not, I will continue for as long as the funds allow, so if you help me get halfway there, then that extends the project by at least a month.
If we reach the goal, I will set up a new one to extend the project even further. Thank you to those who are able to help and thank you for your understanding.
Isn’t it crazy how I’m able to make so many videos with such beautiful maps all the time? That’s because I have help from Emperor Creeper, a fellow YouTube mapper who made the base maps you see here and also runs the Vologda Mapping discord server.
It’s thanks to his work that you get to see videos such as the one I just released on Iran, the ones I’m about to release on Myanmar, and other different projects you’ve seen for months already. Just take a look at all these maps, and if you like what you see, check out his channel for more historical and alternate mapping videos!
