Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
I just returned from a whirlwind week of adventures in Louisville attending my first cheese conference thanks to a scholarship from Vermont Creamery. I’ve led over 2000 classes over the past 12 years, teaching people about their palates, and it was such a nice change of pace to be the student.
So many story ideas came to me as I walked along the Ohio River, listened to the stories of pioneering women in the dairy industry, and found myself in the lobby of the Brown Hotel and among the promenade of Old Louisville. I look forward to how they unfold.
This week’s sleep story, “Midnight at the Museum,” is inspired by a sanctuary in my neighborhood—a place I once volunteered at during Halloween and the Christmas season that has now become a frequent stop whenever my niece visits. They have been known to hold sleepovers under the blue whale, and I thought it would be a perfect cool escape during a quiet, torrid summer.
I hope it helps you all find peace and sleep as a new week unfolds. It’s time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
Whenever I travel, I always keep rain sounds playing through the night.
There's something about that gentle, steady rhythm that helps me relax and settle into sleep, even in an unfamiliar place.
I know I'm not the only one who finds rain so soothing, so I've gathered five of my favorite guided sleep meditations into one new collection, all accompanied by continuous gentle rain.
If you're someone who loves falling asleep to the sound of rain, I hope this collection helps you unwind, let go of the day, and drift into a deep, restful sleep. It’s time to dream away. ☔️🌙

With the heat, with the 4th of July festivities (for those who celebrate), I imagine many of us are overdue for a great night of sleep. I spent a beautiful weekend enjoying the parade of sailboats up the Hudson River (I think it may be time for a pirate story) and finding refuge in the air-conditioned Nederlander Theatre to see Schmigadoon.
Celebrating America's 250th anniversary, I find myself remembering my youth and first learning what a country was. I always try and embrace the sense of community and connection that is possible. With a hint of enchantment.
This week’s sleep story was inspired by a recent trip to see Amaze off-Broadway, which stirred up a wave of 80s nostalgia and that childhood sense of “magical thinking”—when everything felt charged with possibility and wonder.
In this story, you step into a cozy attic in an old English cottage in 1982 where a budding young magician learned his craft. Rain slides down the windows, tea steams in your hands, and Sage the resident cat curls nearby as a storm rolls through outside. It’s a quiet hideaway where imagination softens everything and you can slip back into that feeling of being held by wonder.
It’s time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
Worry has a way of convincing us that if we keep thinking about something long enough, we'll somehow keep ourselves safe. Our thoughts have a way of shaping where our attention goes, and when I came across the idea that I was giving so much energy to the things I didn't want instead of the life I hoped to create, I shifted gears.
I'm not perfect. Worries still find me, and I don't fault anyone whose mind can quickly spiral into "what ifs." I won't rule worries out entirely. Sometimes I give myself a few minutes to consider the worst-case scenario—not to live there, but to make a thoughtful choice that might prevent it. Then I do my best to let the rest go.
Tonight's new guided sleep meditation, The Safety Net, is an invitation to put those worries down.
Together we'll move through calming breathwork, a soothing body scan, and a moonlit visualization where every strand of tension you release becomes part of a luminous woven net. One by one, your worries are gathered, carried into the night sky, and gently released, making room for rest, hope, and the quiet reminder that your greatest source of safety has been within you all along.
I hope this meditation offers you a peaceful place to land at the end of the day.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
Years ago, during a time of great transition, I employed everything imaginable to soothe my anxiety. I was constantly envisioning the worst possible scenarios, convincing myself that if I prepared for every outcome, I would somehow feel safer.
Then I came across the idea that, “Worry is a rehearsal for all the things we don't want.”
Slowly, I began to ask myself a different question: "What if it all works out?" And surprise, surprise, all these year later I have the evidence that it more than worked out. Sure, there were stumbles and losses and pain along the way, but nothing became my worst case possibility.
This week's sleep meditation, Boundary of Calm, invites you to create a protective space around yourself, gently pushing anxious thoughts and worries farther away with every breath. Together, we'll explore The Room Where It All Worked Out, a velvet-lined Quiet Room where racing thoughts lose their momentum, and a moonlit garden that reminds you of your own spaciousness after anxiety has asked you to become small.
If you've been carrying too much lately, consider this your invitation to take a holiday from worry.
Tonight, you don't have to solve, plan, prepare, or brace yourself for what comes next.
You only have to rest.
It's time to dream away.

Tonight’s sleep meditation is one that many of you have been asking for and focuses on depression relief.
Everyone’s experience with depression is different. The first time I dealt with it I was so young and ambitious that I didn’t even realize what that lingering malaise was.
This latest meditation comes with a sense of openness, understanding that sometimes depression makes everything feel “blah” and cast in a palette of grey. Sometimes it comes with an unrelenting voice of criticism, or a feeling of being stuck.
“The Safe Nest” invites you into a sanctuary created just for you. No matter what you are going through, you may release the weight of striving, soften self-criticism, and be held exactly as you are.
Imagine being lowered into a beautiful nest woven from comfort, safety, and warmth. Within it, there is only rest, warmth, and the gentle reminder that you don't have to carry everything alone.
If your heart has been feeling heavy lately, I hope this meditation offers a little comfort tonight.
It's time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
The weather is so fantastic today. I stumbled upon a street fair just outside and wandered for blocks. Ike was such a good pup, doing his best to navigate around the footsteps of crowds, big dogs, and the tantalizing smells off charcoal grills.
And while nothing makes me happier than days where the air no longer hurts my face, when it comes time to fall asleep, I love a moody sky and ominous weather.
This week's sleep story takes us out of perfect summer days for a cool escape to the fjords of Norway. Luxuriate on a yacht that sails beneath the Northern Lights.
I recently read The Woman in Cabin 10, and this isn't the first time a suspense thriller has provided atmospheric inspiration for a sleep story.
Snuggle up and unwind tonight with "The Midnight Fjords."
It's time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
This week's sleep meditation @MichellesMeditationSanctuary, "Hopecore: The Veil of Promise," comes from a place of yearning for hope to become as infectious as all the other things going viral these days.
I've learned with time that no matter how much I ache to return to the purity of hope I carried as a 17-year-old, freshly unleashed in New York City, hope changes with us. Its patina deepens. It may become quieter, a little less intense, but it still glows. And the more it's nurtured, the brighter that glow becomes.
I didn't have to feed my hope back then. It fed itself and sparked hope in others. Now, I find that same feeling reflected in my young nieces and nephews, whose wonder and joy remind me that hope is always waiting to be rekindled.
I invite you to indulge yourself tonight with a journey into the Hopecore Forest, where your yearnings are protected, possibility lingers in the moonlit air, and the nocturnal world stirs a little magic within.
It's time to dream away.

Michelle's Sanctuary Stories for Sleep
Time travel has been on my mind and inspired a new series I’ve created called “The One Hundred-Year Cabin.”
In each new story, we’ll experience the cabin through the lens of a different decade and season, finding all the comforts that remain in its storied log walls throughout time.
Tonight’s sleep story brings us to the first summer at the cabin in 1924. Travel by steam train to the deep woods of Maine, where you connect with nature and enjoy adventures with a pup by your side.
Snuggle up and unwind in this quiet oasis beyond the moonlit pines, where the rhythms of the day and night answer the call of the loon, the sun’s fading light, and the infinite starry sky. It’s time to dream away. 🌙
Ike makes a surprise appearance in this week’s video as he couldn’t stop obsessing over my new taper candles. His sighs were plentiful and carefully edited out as I recorded the vocals. So of course, the spirit of a pup is quite prevalent through this release!
Going live Sunday May 17th, at 7PM EST!
