"RUDE!"

On 24 May 2007, Amy Winehouse won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Contemporary Song for Rehab – the defining anthem of the decade.

Backstage, the celebration turned a little sour, as she called out one interviewer for being “rude” to his female colleague. ‌

Acid House took over Britain… here’s how 👉 https://youtu.be/YJ2GJ3VWheY

By the late 1980s, Acid House had exploded from underground clubs into a nationwide youth movement.

What began in small venues quickly spread to illegal warehouse parties, aircraft hangars and huge all-night raves across Britain.

This original Retold by ITN documentary explores the rise of Acid House, the secret world of pirate radio and roadside phone calls, and the growing panic from authorities as the rave scene became one of the most controversial subcultures of its time.

Were you old enough to remember the rise of Acid House in the UK?

“Women can’t drive!”

On 7 July 1970, ITN’s Elizabeth Fox investigated the findings of a survey on women drivers, setting hard data against the unwavering confidence of male motorists.

While an AA study found women were safer, more considerate, and less accident‑prone, interviews with male drivers revealed men cheerfully insisting the exact opposite – dismissing women as “terrible” behind the wheel.

🚨 We’ve got something new to share with you! 🚨

As many of you will have seen, ITN Archive is now Frontline by ITN – but at its heart, nothing has changed. This channel is still about bringing you remarkable moments from history, directly from our archive, and making them accessible here on YouTube.

But there’s something we want to let you in on.

Our archive is vast, and a huge amount of it still exists only on ageing film reels. Over time, film naturally degrades, sometimes developing a condition known as vinegar syndrome, which means that unless it’s preserved and digitised, it can be lost forever. Quite simply, we’re in a race against time to save this material.

That’s why we’re launching Channel Memberships, starting at £3.99 a month – roughly the price of a coffee.

This is a way for those of you who want to support what we do to help us go further – and help us save more of this history.

Membership fees will contribute directly to supporting our digitisation programme, helping us rescue more footage and bring it back to life.

And in return, we want to bring you closer into the process.

As a member, you’ll be able to:
• Vote in members-only polls on what we digitise next
• See exclusive photos and updates from the archive team
• Get early access to our long-form videos before they go live

This channel exists because of your interest, your curiosity, and your support. We read your comments, we see your suggestions, and we know how much this history means to you.

If you’d like to play a part in preserving it – and help shape what we uncover next – we’d love to have you with us.

Thank you, as always, for being part of Frontline by ITN.

Frontline by ITN

Hello and welcome to Frontline by ITN 🌍 🎥

You may remember us as ITN Archive – and while the channel name has changed, both the team and the mission behind it remains the same: bringing history to life through original reporting and remarkable archive footage.

Frontline by ITN is where we tell the stories of the power struggles that shaped the modern world, from era-defining political debates to armed conflicts that redrew the map.

And we're thrilled to announce that the ITN Archive now has two more archive channels, each dedicated to areas of history that one channel just can't cover alone:

Re-told by ITN: The home of stories from the people. Social history told from the ground up.

And Flashback by ITN: Where we celebrate the icons that shaped popular culture from the 1950s to the present day.

This new chapter reflects how much the archive has grown, and it wouldn’t have happened without all of you. Thanks for being part of the journey!

On this day in 1979, 20 year-old IRA volunteer Kieran Nugent was released from Maze Prison. Known as the first IRA "blanket man", Nugent was the first to rebel against the British government's removal of Special Category Status (political status) for Irish republican prisoners in March 1976, which would culminate in the historic 1981 Hunger Strikes.

A few weeks ago, our archive team located rushes of his release and from inside Maze Prison during the dirty protests, below is a small selection of images taken from this fantastic find as Nugent is reunited with his parents.
