Hello! So glad you are here. About me: After receiving my Master of Science Degree in Landscape Design from Columbia University I opened a small firm specializing in creating unique outdoor spaces. In addition to having a landscape design degree I am a huge gardener! Through my garden experience and garden research I learned to appreciate nature, art and science. I am here to share this passion with you. Yuliya :) I garden in Zone 7, Northern New Jersey.

I’ll be at Flora House NYC this Friday, Sept 5th around 11 for a few hours 🌿✨ It’s a beautiful event organized by @BaileyNurseriesInc and @FirstEditionsShrubsTrees to inspire gardeners and plant lovers. The best part? It’s free—and yes, there will be dessert! 😁

I love combining plants like this— to see how the colors, textures, and shapes play together.
I usually group 3–5-7 plants to create a “moment” or a “vignette.”
It’s a simple practice that really trains the eye to create the most beautiful compositions.
This spring palette includes:
Prunus serrulata ‘Kanzan’ (Flowering Cherry)
Tulipa ‘Black Queen’, ‘Double Flag’, and ‘Mondial’
Lamprocapnos spectabilis (Bleeding Heart)
Polygonatum odoratum (Solomon’s Seal)
Muscari latifolium
Polystichum acrostichoides (Christmas Fern)

Last year, I did a live stream after visiting the Philadelphia Flower Show. Would you like me to do another live stream this year or just post a regular narrated video?

I am sorry if you missed the first live stream. It was a way for me to figure out how it works, so I can do more in the future. I found the missing images from the Philadelphia Flower Show, and I would like to do another live stream tomorrow, March 10 so everyone else can join. We can go over the Flower Show again, talk gardening, garden design or whatever else you would like to chat about 😊 Let me know what works for you. It was so much fun, there will be more lives in the future!!! 😁😁😁 (keep in mind Daylight saving time starts tomorrow)

Garden lighting can be so beautiful. But wait!!! When it comes to installing garden lighting, I always make it a point to educate my clients about its impact on wildlife. It's incredible how a seemingly harmless choice can disrupt the lives of night creatures like bats, owls, and moths, while also altering the migration patterns of many bird species who rely on the stars for navigation. Here are some tips on wildlife-friendly lighting practices:
Choose Warm and Low-Intensity Lighting: Opt for cozy, warm-colored LED lights that emit a gentle glow. This kind of lighting is less likely to disturb the critters unlike the cooler, bluish lights
Aim Lights Downward: This way, we can prevent disorienting birds and minimize the impact on neighboring ecosystems
Use Timers or Dimmers: This allows you to create a more natural lighting cycle and reduce the duration of unnecessary illumination during critical wildlife hours
Install Motion Sensor Lights:. Motion sensor lights not only conserve energy but also minimize light pollution, giving birds a clear path to follow
Consider Turning Off Lights during Active Migration: When birds are on the move, it's best to dim the lights or turn them off altogether @kichlerlighting

The fires from Canada brought tons of smoke and it’s hard to breathe outside 😨 the colours have been really eerie too! I am only going outside to water my plants. Stay safe out there!
