Thriving with Richard Bass

Some ADHD boys grow up believing they’re “too much.”

Too loud.Too emotional.Too distracted.Too difficult.

But many of the behaviors people criticize are actually signs of a nervous system struggling to regulate, focus, and cope.

The goal isn’t to “fix” your son. It’s to understand him before the world convinces him something is wrong with who he is.

Because when ADHD boys feel supported instead of shamed…

they often become incredibly creative, passionate, empathetic, resilient, and driven. ❤️

Thriving with Richard Bass

Stop the stigma. ADHD is more than just “being hyper.” 🧠❤️

Many ADHD children are struggling with things that other people never fully see.

It can look like:
“not listening”
“being lazy”
“being dramatic”
or “being difficult.”

But often, what’s actually happening is:

• difficulty regulating attention
• emotional overwhelm
• trouble transitioning between tasks
• impulsive reactions
• mental exhaustion
• sensory overload
• frustration they don’t know how to explain

Sometimes ADHD means:
wanting to focus…
but your brain constantly pulling you somewhere else.

Sometimes it means:
feeling emotions so intensely that small situations feel huge.

And sometimes it means:
trying your hardest while constantly feeling misunderstood.

ADHD children usually need more support, understanding, structure, and patience — not just more punishment.

That’s one of the reasons I created content like this and wrote The ADHD Parenting Guide for Boys — to help parents better understand what may actually be happening beneath the behavior.
