I explore the strange, brilliant, and sometimes ridiculous world of retro computers, mostly centered around the Commodore 64.
From disk magazines like Loadstar to modern projects like C64 OS, it’s amazing what people are still doing with 40-year-old hardware.
Expect:
• obscure C64 software
• retro computing experiments
• forgotten magazines and demos
• modern projects running on classic machines
If you grew up with Commodore computers — or you’re discovering them for the first time — welcome aboard.

Cool news for us C64 Ultimate owners - a new firmware has been released. Now the C64 Ultimate supports USB mice! www.commodore.net/downloads to grab it.
One note: A Super duper edge case issue with the new firmware. Some peripherals that utilize the joystick port (that are not joysticks) might not work. I've been messing around with the Covox Voicemaster speech processor for a short time for an upcoming video. It plugs into joystick port 2, but no longer seems to be working after installing the new firmware.
I confirmed it was not an issue with the Voicemaster. I have a second C64 Ultimate that I didn't install the firmware on and it still works on that computer.
Just a heads up for us weirdos trying to connect strange things to our computers
From the changelog:
Added
-----
- Navigation: Left arrow ← (top-left of C64U keyboard) will now navigate back a menu, in addition to previous controls such as WASD.
- USB Mouse Support: Should support most mice. (Some proprietary USB mice may not work.)
- The LED controller for the keyboard and case now has Music Detect mode, which can automatically detect sounds and start jamming to your favorite SIDs and game sound effects, even when not in "SID Music" mode. This allows you to keep the LEDs on during general usage, but have them become sound-reactive only when applicable.
Changed
-------
- Improved light colors and patterns for Starlight and Founders Edition.
- The power LED will turn on RED even when the keyboard LEDs have been set to 'off'.
- Commodore 64 Ultimate Web Interface: Added drag and drop support for Web SID, PRG, and CRT files.
- Commodore 64 Ultimate Web Interface: Improves some tool tips and styling.
- Commodore 64 Ultimate Web Interface: Improved the BASIC editor (Stop button, uppercase option, and error handling).
- Commodore 64 Ultimate Web Interface: Disabled line wrapping in the BASIC Editor / Tokenizer window to make it easier to analyze long lines of code.
- CommoServe File Search: Now searches Commodore's File server instead of the Assembly64 server, ensuring only software that a developer has granted permission for, is served to end users.
Fixed
-----
- The network status was not updating without leaving the page and going back. The page for WiFi and LAN now updates properly.
- Improved stability of WiFi and Ethernet Connectivity.
- WiFi no longer connects to open APs if they have not been set as 'known' APs.
- The user port now has 9V AC.
- CIA timing has been changed to make some fastloaders work better.
- Turbo mode gets disabled for a second after reset, so that PAL/NTSC detection in JiffyDOS works correctly. This fixes faulty JiffyDOS data transfers with Turbo enabled.
- Commodore 64 Ultimate Web Interface: no longer links to external websites for firmware updates. Simply visit www.commodore.net/downloads for the latest firmware at any time.
- Fixed Memory leak issue with the File Manager's fcopy function.
- Commodore 64 Ultimate Web Interface: Fixed httpd crash when only httpd is enabled.
- Commodore 64 Ultimate Web Interface: Fixed web BASIC editor tokenizer bug with "DATA" statements.
- Commodore 64 Ultimate Web Interface: Live Monitor fixed and improvements related to 'm'+'d' command.
- Fix memory leak in Temp writer / REU writer in API endpoints.
- Fix loading the RGB palette for analog RGB output.
- Changed reference from Assembly 64 to CommoServe in help text.
- Various HDMI optimizations and fixes.
- Resolved issues with the ACIA 6551 emulation.
- CommoServe Files: Fixed issue where you couldn't view text files from search results.
- Fixed an issue where a reboot is no longer required to switch between the external and internal cartridge bus.

Went to The Indy Classic Computer and Video Game Expo in Indianapolis this weekend and had a blast. Such a bunch of fun and friendly people eager to talk about their systems and projects. I could have blown SOOO much more money. In the end I nabbed a 1541-II Disk Drive and it works flawlessly. Also bought some stickers and a commodore tote.
My most recent video was posted a few days ago - Check it out! Hope to have more coming up in the next week. https://youtu.be/ScPGXjPBzgo?si=OHai5...

Because Im a refined gentleman with an eye for fine art and design, I grabbed a few badges from @Retrobadgeman to replace the sticker on my transparent c64c case which I didn’t really care for. Now the question is: which one do I go with - The SX inspired blue badge or the glow in the dark version? Talk about first world problems :)

What’s everyone doing with their c64’s/ultimates this weekend? I’m having a blast checking out Quantum Link Reloaded and BBSes.
Also, I know this channel is very new but I wanted to thank you for subscribing! I’m just getting started but have a lot of fun ideas for videos.
Next week I’ll be trying to preserve some (admittedly bad) software that I found was not available yet online. I’lol also spin the WHEEL OF LOADSTAR again and take a look at another issue of that iconic diskmag.
Would also love to hear your ideas for potential videos.
Thanks again for making my first week with this channel so fun :)
