Be extremely careful of those moments in your life when you do not feel like praying. Be very cautious of those times in your life when you cannot pray, when you simply do not feel like praying — perhaps because you are tired, weak, busy, or just not in the mood.
Deep within your spirit, you know that you ought to pray, yet you do not feel inclined to do so. You may not even know where to begin.
Or perhaps you find yourself scrolling through your phone. There is always one more thing to check — a WhatsApp status to view, a conversation to follow, a news update to read, or another TikTok video to watch. So you keep scrolling: just one more time, then another, and another.
Those moments are extremely critical in your life as a Christian, and I will explain why.
Listen carefully: every Christian faces three battles. In our time, every believer is engaged in these three struggles.
The first is the “Battle for Attention". You are trying to regain control of your attention and direct it towards what truly matters. In other words, you are attempting to pull your focus away from distractions. Most of the things that surround us today are distractions.
The second is the “Battle for Perception" — learning how to see things correctly and from an eternal perspective. It is the struggle to look at situations and at life itself through God's eyes, to see things the way God sees them and to interpret events according to His understanding. Unfortunately, many Christians are losing this battle. Life, social media, society, government, and even science are redefining many things for them, so they no longer view the world the way God does.
As a result, we must fight every day to reclaim our perception — our meaning and our interpretation of things.
The third battle is the “Battle for Control”. Who is in charge? Who controls events? Who determines the use of time? Who governs the environment, the territory, and the atmosphere? Who decides what should happen and what should not happen? Ultimately, who is in control?
