⚽ World Cup season is here!
Let's talk about strength and conditioning for soccer athletes today.

Most soccer players hit the gym to improve their performance.

The problem?

Many don't know what will actually transfer to the field.

So they default to:
- Squats
- Bench Press
- Deadlifts

And add:
- Bicep Curls
- Leg Extensions
- Hamstring Curls

Are these bad exercises?

No.

But soccer isn't won by having the biggest muscles.

It's won by being able to:
- Sprint faster
- Change direction quicker
- Decelerate under control
- Win physical battles
- Stay explosive for 90 minutes

The gym should help you improve those qualities.

Think of muscle like a bigger engine.

Useful? Absolutely!!

But a bigger engine doesn't automatically make you a faster race car.

You also need to apply that power efficiently.

That's where movement-based strength training comes in.

💡 Muscle is a tool, not the goal.

A 2015 review in Sports Medicine Open found that strength training programs focused on force production, power, and movement efficiency improved:

- Sprint speed
- Jump performance
- Change of direction ability
- Fatigue resistance

The most effective programs didn't just build muscle—they combined strength training with sprinting and plyometrics.

The takeaway?

Soccer isn't about building bigger muscles.

It's about building a body that can produce force quickly and apply it efficiently on the field.

⚽ Muscle is part of the equation.
🔥 Movement is the goal.

💡 I'm a big believer in this simple system when I build my workout programs:

❌️ Instead of just thinking in terms of muscle groups, I organize exercises by these movement patterns:

1️⃣ Vertical Push & Pull
2️⃣ Horizontal Push & Pull
3️⃣ Rotational Push & Pull

✅️ This helps ensure strength training through multiple planes of motion. And it also helps create more balanced athletes and reduce gaps in your program.

Example:

✅ Pull-Up = Vertical Pull
✅ Bench Press = Horizontal Push
✅ Cable Row = Horizontal Pull
✅ MB Rotational throw = Rotational push

Train movements, not just muscles. 💪🏽🏋️‍♂️
