A friend of mine pointed something out about today that I never thought of.
Yes, we are a nation founded on the blood of innocent people who were here first.
Yes, we are a nation of corporate corruption and we’re basically isntreals war puppet.
Yes, we are a nation that glorifies its melting pot of culture and then abandons and demonizes the people who are that culture.
Yes, we are so many horrific things and more.
But, we the people are not entirely the sum of those misdeeds.
You and I, the people who contribute to this society, the people who care for each other, the people who stand up for one another through hardship - this is what makes us great. Not the government, not our history, not our systems. You and I.
That being said, I will not celebrate the 4th of July. I don’t believe in the the version of this country that school textbooks claim. But I believe in you and I.
