The Rein 3.0 has been announced by Cloud Defensive. I was fortunate to have my hands on this since October. The 3.0 has been through a 3-Day Class of Low Light Shoot House and a 5-Day Super Class at Alliance Police Training. The light was used in the following training environments: Alliance Shoot House, two schools, three houses, an industrial manufacturing facility with offices, a water treatment plant, a low light vehicle assault, and the Canton warehouse and offices all in conjunction with various lighting conditions paired with NVGs/IR. You can go get all the light’s specs from @clouddefensive post, I am here to talk about the application of the light and the improvements made in the 3.0.
The 3.0 was a dominant performer above all the lights that were in the classes. The improved throw and spill performed above any light I’ve seen or used. The more you see the more information you can gather, which allows you to make better decisions. Especially in the environments the light was used in as most of them aren’t very simple and presented difficult problems that required manipulation of light into many spaces. If you are thinking IR and White Light are two separate technologies, I would recommend getting into a @tnvc_inc class with @the_billpete, @m_sebas10, or the rest of the crew to show you the advantages of integrating the technologies and not using just one or the other.
We all have joked about new flash lights being the sun, well, this isn’t far away from it. Obvious candela improvements but also spill. While right now it feels like we are on in this candela Cold War space race (which is great), the spill is a required function of a light as well when we look at the low light application. Candela serves a huge purpose indoors that is often over looked. When we need to push light from one area to another (through a door into another room, between parked cars, and photonic barriers that often come with intermittent lighting in structures and outdoors in urban areas), candela is what makes that happen. Don’t think that a high candela light isn’t useful indoors, it is beyond beneficial when working in structures.
Spill is what helps us see our environment. Importantly, our background and foreground, which is fundamental when deadly force is applied. This also helps us when scanning environments to recognize potential angles of exposures quicker. It is great that technology has allowed lights to see at such a distance, but don’t forget we will need the spill. People typically move, think about where that hot spot would be, and why you need to spill. The greater the distance, the more useful spill is needed. We could go down the rabbit hole on this subject but the improved candela and spill of the 3.0 have increased the effectiveness of the application of this light immensely.
The tone of the light has been increased back more towards the Rein 1.0 color. A light offering the softer tone (yellowish) improves the contrast you can pick up on objects and people. This gives us more depth to see details of what we need to see for potential PID. The wavelength frequency of this color also enables it to go further and be less obstructed by air and environmental variables such as water, smoke, etc. While the amount of this added performance can vary, in a low light scenario, we take every advantage we can get.
Let’s also mention that putting 100k in someone’s face can make them rethink decisions, and reduce their ability to see, and the less they see, the less information they have to make decisions against us.
This post is just scratching the surface on low light and application, but reminds me of one of my favorite quotes in reference to low light:
“We seriously overcomplicate it. We seriously underestimate the complexity of it. It is about problem-solving and acquiring information.” - @centrifuge_chase
If you pick up a Rein 3.0, which are available at 12/14/22 at 10am, it will be under your Christmas Tree as well. You will be amazed with the performance of the light. #practicallytactical #clouddefensive #ar15 #lowlight #flashlights #rein #weaponlight See less

You haven’t ever taken scenario based force on force training? A great opportunity in Indiana still has spots available. If you carry a gun, own a gun, or thinking about either, this class is for you. It isn’t shootem up paintball ballistic masterbation; it is a class structured for understanding and applying multiple skills such as MUC, use of force, etc…

Many times CQB is looked down up due to the “larping” with gear. It is safety equipment required for the class. If they were bright orange and had the word safety printed on them, would that make it safety gear and then now it’s okay? It’s flawed logic that stops many people from taking training that offers key aspects to self defense.
There are few types of training classes that allow students to go from square range skills to actual application. This is one of them. A few of the applications we get to work in CQB are decision making, muzzle management, how to move and move around other people with a gun, low light, identification, communication, problem solving, reading an environments, understanding angles of exposure, movement to reduce angles of exposure, maximize angles of attack, and so so many more.
All of these are important and happen when a firearm is needed. “Knowing how to do something is very different than knowing how to do something while making decisions.” - Joe Weyer
Change your thinking from “that’s a cool class” or “that looks like a fun class” and go get into a great CQB class at @alliancepolicetraining or else where. You’ll thank me later. And you’ll have a ton of fun, meet great people, and gain understanding of application.
