Short Guide to Caribbean Travel in 2023

Short Guide to Caribbean Travel in 2021 When we talk about the Caribbean, we aren't talking about a country or a single island. The Caribbean is a region formed by several countries and hundreds of islands, all of them bathed by the sea that provides its name to the region, the Caribbean Sea. Between North America and South America and east of Central America, in this region, there are more than 35,000,000 inhabitants spread over a total area of 2,763,800 km2.

Because it's not considered a single country, the region does not have a capital as such. Each country is as much its own capital. Regarding the most important city, there are several. Santo Domingo, in the Dominican Republic, is the most populated city in the Caribbean, although other cities such as Havana or Kingston, capitals of their respective countries, are also very well known due to their history, infrastructures, and population.

What makes the Caribbean so popular?

If the Caribbean population is most characterized by anything, it is because of its miscegenation. The Tainos, the first settlers of these islands, were decimated in the first years of the conquest due to wars, diseases, and exploitation. We must not forget that the Caribbean was the entrance door of the Europeans to the new world, and that

is why the majority of the population is mulata, a product of the mixture between European conquerors and slaves. The Caribbeans stand out for their kindness and joy. In the Caribbean, several languages stand out and it is very likely that on the same trip, if you change island or make a cruise, you will find different places in which different languages are spoken. The most widely spoken language is Spanish, followed closely by English. French and Dutch are also popular spoken languages in the Caribbean.

How is the weather in the Caribbean?

The climate of this area is characterized by its homogeneity in terms of temperature. It is common that in the Caribbean meteorological conditions vary in different areas, but what can be generalized is that the Caribbean climate is pleasant during the whole year. In addition, the characteristic alisios winds of this region soften the effects of tropical heat. A tropical climate is characterized by having two unique well-known conditions: dry season and rainy season.

The Caribbean economy

The Caribbean does not have a single official currency as such. Each country has its own currency, but it is also true that in most countries they accept US dollars. The main activity in the Caribbean that drives the region's economy is tourism. Due to the growing European tourism in the area, in most countries, you can change euros for the local currency. If you are traveling to the Caribbean, you should take a universal adapter with you that works with any type of plug, and many of them act as voltage transformers as well.

What clothes should you take with you?

For an average day in the Caribbean, it is recommended to wear comfortable clothes. Shorts, blouses, shirts, and swimwear of fresh and soft fabrics are advisable garments to put in your suitcase. A lightweight sweater can be useful for some nights and rainy conditions. It is convenient to carry more than one swimsuit, since it is possibly the garment you are going to use the most at beaches. Sunglasses and hats can be very suitable accessories for traveling to the Caribbean.

5 National Parks to Experience Wildlife in USA

National parks offer visitors amazing opportunities, from seeing unforgettable scenery to the chance to experience activities in nature such as hiking, camping, and horseback riding. However, they also offer visitors the chance to experience animals they may have never seen before, in their natural habitats.

Five of the best parks to observe wildlife include:

Katmai National Park and Preserve - Located in Alaska in a region that was formerly devastated by volcanoes, this park is one of the best places to observe thousands of bears and salmon in their natural habitat. Additionally, the tundra and coastal areas of the park make for one of the best bird-watching locations that you can find in North America.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park - Located along the border of North Carolina and Tennessee, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers a dazzling array of wildlife available for viewing. Black bears can often be seen along the Cades Cove area of the park, and there are a variety of smaller animals, such as 30 varieties of salamander and synchronous fireflies, that visitors can observe. The area is also one of the few places where elk may be seen east of the Mississippi River.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park - Theodore Roosevelt National Park is in North Dakota and is located at the junction of the Great Plains and Badlands. The park contains a wide variety of animals including elk, prairie dogs, pronghorn, and wild horses. Visitors may also get caught in a “North Dakota traffic jam" caused by bison on the road. Yellowstone National Park - Established as America’s first national park in 1872, Yellowstone National Park, located in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming, offers visitors the chance to observe a wide variety of wildlife including deer, pronghorn, mountain goats, elk, moose, bison, black bears, grizzly bears, mountain lions, lynx, and wolverines.

Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park - Located in Hawaii, the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park contains two of the most active volcanoes in the world, Kilauea and Mauna Loa. The unique landscape and ecological features of the park mean that 90% of the animals and plants found in the park cannot be found elsewhere including the state bird, the néné, carnivorous caterpillars, hawksbill turtles, and Hawaiian dragonflies, which are known for their six-inch wingspans.
