Over 15,000 years ago, predating all religion, Adiyogi – the first Yogi, transmitted the science of Yoga to his seven disciples, the Saptarishis. He expounded 112 ways through which human beings can transcend their limitations and reach their ultimate potential. This knowing became the spine for all spiritual processes on the planet.
Over the millennia, this timeless Yogic science has spawned a galaxy of enlightened beings who have enriched the world with their presence and opened up the possibility for others to experience the ultimate nothingness which is the very source of creation. The word "Shi-va" means the ultimate nothingness. Since Adiyogi was the first one to experience this and expound ways for others to experience this, he is also known as Shiva. For this reason, in the Yogic culture, Shiva is not seen as a god, but as the originator of Yoga.
