Ceramics doesn’t wait for you…
You wait for ceramics.
It’s been years since I’ve had my hands in clay. Luckily, I’m married to an expert—so with Marc’s guidance, we’ve got about one-third of the cocoons cast for the Extinction Chandelier.
Here’s the thing about ceramics: once you start pouring the molds, you’re on its timeline. You can’t walk away halfway through and come back later like an encaustic painting. Every pour, every release, every drying phase has to happen in rhythm.
For now, that rhythm means my studio life is all slip, plaster, and the slow choreography of drying forms. The Extinction Chandelier will fill the Shift Window Gallery in November, delicate ceramic monarch cocoons suspended in the space.
It’s both beautiful and uneasy. Monarchs are migrating less each year, their flight paths shrinking as climate change reshapes our planet.
This installation is my meditation on fragility, persistence, and the strange beauty of survival.
November 1 is coming fast. The kiln is calling, and the clock is ticking.

Normally when there is a microphone in my face I'm talking about how to show up on camera as your best self. This time I got to talk about my second passion... Encaustic art. If you want a break from business work this Friday –after all the markets are closed – take a few minutes to hear about the art scene at Magnuson Park Gallery and my love for Encaustic and (no surprise here) marketing.
