Bilang isang abogado, it’s always meaningful to share not just the wins, but the real journey: not all glamor but yung hirap, sacrifices, at lessons learned along the way. The legal profession is not just about knowing the law, but living with integrity, discipline, and accountability every single day.
I appreciate the opportunity to talk about building a law practice, what I look for in future lawyers and partners, and how important character is in this profession. Nakaka-inspire din marinig ang insights at questions ng mga estudyante—they remind me why mentorship matters.

To the future lawyers: keep showing up, keep learning, and stay grounded in your purpose. The law needs more professionals who are not only competent, but also principled.
Maraming salamat for the meaningful exchange. Hanggang sa susunod na hapág.
I will always be proud to stand with Human Rights Defenders.

Debating has taught me to speak up when it matters the most. It has inculcated in me the value of self-discipline and hard work—that there are no shortcuts if you want to be the best.
I started my career as a debater at Claret School of Quezon City. I vividly remember that can barely speak in straight English, and I was called the 2-minute speech guy for more than a year because I cannot even finish a 7-minute speech. Nevertheless, I showed up in almost every training session despite the seeming impossibility of making it through tryouts. After being coached by several key people who believed in me, I eventually became the over-all best speaker of the National Asians High School Debate Championships (the largest national debate tournament for high school in Asians format) and was declared among the top speakers in the Philippines in the Philippine Schools Debating Championships (the largest high school debate tournament in British Parliamentary format).
I joined the La Salle Debate Society when I entered De La Salle University. My college debating career was fulfilling: me and my team won the ANC Square Off Debates which was televised live in Asians Format. I was declared twice as among the top speakers in Asia, thrice as among the top speakers in the Philippines, and became a grand finalist of the National Debate Championships. I likewise served as the President of the Philippine Debate Union and Chair of the United Asian Debate Union. I concluded my career as a 4-time breaking adjudicator at and Convenor of the World Universities Debating Championships, the largest debate tournament in the world.
But most importantly, debating gave me the opportunity to travel the world and to teach debating to thousands of students. It is also through debating that I met my wife Kym who was also a top debater of her school, Unibersidad De Santa Isabel.
From critical thinking, traveling the world, to meeting the love of my life, indeed, debating can change one’s life!
