We’re honored to share that Explore: Petra has been officially nominated at the Christian Worldview Film Festival for Best Short Documentary.
Appian Media CEO Craig Dehut will attend the Christian Worldview Guild during the festival to connect with fellow filmmakers committed to biblical faithfulness and excellence in storytelling.
This nomination is especially meaningful because the Explore series was created from moments we captured that simply couldn’t be left on the cutting room floor.
When our team travels for productions, we often:
• Visit unexpected locations
• Capture historical insights beyond the main story
• Film in places too powerful to ignore
The Explore series allows us to share those moments with you.

From Barry Britnell: ll of us at Appian Media were saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Gabriel Barkay. With regard to Israeli archaeology, he is a bit of a legend. I remember during the early planning phases of Searching for a King, we were considering different people to interview. When we came to the subject of the construction of Solomon's temple and the Temple Mount, there was only one person who came to mind: Dr. Gabriel Barkay. We reached out to him and he was kind enough to grant us an interview. But, more than that, he escorted us to two different locations. We initially met him at the site of the Temple Mount Sifting Project and discussed his work there. Then, he led us back to his laboratory where we were able to sit down with him for well over an hour and discuss his work. It was an absolute thrill to meet him and spend time with him. I will never forget his kindness and generosity.
For me personally, he provided the highlight of the Searching for a King series. As we sat with him in his lab, Jeremy asked him about his greatest discovery in archaeology. He could have listed a myriad of different accomplishments, including the Ketef Hinnom Scrolls, which are on permanent display at the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. But he did not mention any of those things. When asked about his greatest discovery, he said:
"The people...they are amazing. Children, elderly, students, religious, non-religious, ultra-religious, all kinds and types of people. We have had people from all four corners of the world. We have had an incredible number of volunteers. There were about a quarter of a million people, which makes this project into the most exposed archaeological project in the world. To look into the eyes of a child, who finds a coin which was not touched by someone in two thousand years. Or to look into the eyes of an elderly person who realizes he touches the sacred soil of the Temple Mount. The excitement of these people are unparalleled. So the greatest discovery of mine was the people."
Personally, I thought that response was simply brilliant. Of all the things he could have mentioned, he reminded me that the most important thing in life...is people. He was absolutely correct.
Dr. Barkay...thank you.

Hidden in the floor of a 6th-century church in Madaba, Jordan, the Madaba Map stretches from Lebanon to the Nile Delta. The Madabla Map reveals how people in the 6th century understood the biblical world.
From Jerusalem’s streets and gates to Jericho’s palm trees… from wildlife along the Jordan River to fish swimming away from the Dead Sea—every detail was crafted with purpose.
Our newest episode, Explore: The Madaba Map, is now available to watch.
▶️ Watch now and step into the world of the Bible through this ancient masterpiece.
