This project goes beyond managing the conflict; it seeks to resolve it unilaterally by imposing permanent Israeli sovereignty and dismantling the institutional basis of Palestinian self-determination.
Friends, comrades, we gather here today at the final resting place of 14 leaders of the 1916 Rising for the Communist Party of Ireland’s annual commemoration marking the Easter Rising and the execution of its leaders, among them perhaps the greatest Irish anti-imperialist, James Connolly.
We are witnessing a raising of consciousness as Western imperialism puts its excessive brutality and genocidal violence on show for all to see. The challenge now is to move from mobilisation to organisation. In order to build a revolutionary movement we must have solid revolutionary theory. As communists, anti-imperialists and internationalists we must work to understand the changes taking shape and use that understanding to help shape a future free from profit shifting, resource theft and unequal exchange. A future where sovereign development can flourish, nations can breathe and trade without the weight of diplomatic coercion, illegal sanctions, impossible debt repayments and structural adjustment programmes imposed by the imperial core, their global financial institutions, and the use or threat of military force.
Made in 1967, just 48 hours after Che Guevara was killed, and commissioned by Fidel Castro, Santiago Álvarez's famous documentary tells the story of Che's final campaign in Bolivia, his work with the indigenous communities there, and his commitment to revolutionary struggle. The film has become one of Cuba's most celebrated shorts and a powerful tribute to a man who became a symbol of anti-imperialism worldwide.
The pop-art poster is also one of Cuba's most famous. Designed in '68 by Cuban artist Rostgaard, one of ICAIC's most prolific designers, it uses Alberto Korda's iconic image of Che inside a black bordered box — a simple reference to how images of the dead are displayed in some cultures.
Hasta la Victoria Siempre (Onwards forever to victory) will close this year's festival and screen as part of our second programme of vintage short films, Saturday 4pm. Other films include Sara Gómez's Iré a Santiago and documentaries on the US blockade and La Coubre harbour explosion.
Ireland is experiencing an inflationary slowdown. Forecasts point to growth falling from expectations of near 3% to now 1.6% for 2026. Higher energy prices, alongside the decline in last year’s exports surge, feed that dynamic.

Is this Cuba's favourite film?
