How Long, After All? The Outcry of a Visually Impaired Person’s Overflowing Pain and Indignation
I fully understand that discipline is essential for the functioning of any society and nation. As citizens, we are duty-bound to abide by the rules of the system. However, I have a simple, direct question: How long, after all?
When we fill a bucket with water, once it reaches the brim, the water inevitably begins to overflow and spill out. Human patience, too, has its limits. The kind of undeclared authoritarianism and callousness that is currently dominating the Indian governance system is enough to make anyone’s blood boil. And when the person enduring this injustice happens to be someone as helpless and visually impaired as myself, the agony becomes all the more unbearable.
I am a visually impaired citizen, and today, I feel betrayed within my own country. I am a resident of Chhattisgarh, where the government provides us with a mere 500 rupees in the name of a disability pension. In this era of soaring inflation, what is the actual worth of 500 rupees? Yet, observe the irony: even to receive this paltry sum, such an absurdly rigid rule has been imposed—requiring one's name to appear on a specific 'survey list'—that many needy individuals like me are denied even this meager 500 rupees.
If we seek employment in an effort to live with dignity, the situation there is even worse. Whenever a new government vacancy is announced, we approach it with renewed hope and apply. However, upon reaching the venue, we discover that either no positions have been allocated specifically for us (persons with disabilities), or—even if, by some stroke of luck, a vacancy does exist—the "blindness" of the system itself stands in our way. While filling out forms or during the verification process—specifically when a photograph is required via webcam—the software issues a command: "Blink your eyes." Tell me yourself: how is a person who is completely sightless—someone whose eyes hold absolutely no light—supposed to blink before a machine? Is this not the cruelest joke played upon our very existence and our helplessness?
When we knock on the government's doors with these legitimate grievances, no one even bothers to listen to us. Our files and our cries for help remain buried beneath the dust of government offices. Resigned to this fate, when we attempt to reach the government directly—often with the assistance of others—and take to the streets to raise our voices, the system treats us worse than it treats criminals.
The government unleashes the police upon us—disabled individuals making peaceful demands—with such brutality that some of us end up with broken spines, while others suffer broken arms. The very batons that ought to be raining down upon criminals are instead brought down upon the backs of blind and helpless human beings.
Today, I have but one question for the common citizens of this country, and for a government blinded by the intoxication of power:
When every avenue has been blocked for us, and our rights are being snatched away, are we not even permitted to curse this government? What, then, are we supposed to do? Are we simply to stand here in silence, enduring the blows of police batons until our spines snap? In a democracy, did we cast our votes for this very day—for this very brand of tyranny?
The water has now begun to spill over the brim. This is no longer merely a matter of discipline; it is a question of our very existence and our self-respect.

Scientific Temper, Historical Reality, and Social Equality: A Self-Introspection
1. Acknowledging Historical Wrongs and Social Justice
It is a bitter truth that, during ancient and medieval times, immense injustice was inflicted upon the Dalit and backward sections of society in the name of the caste system. The willingness of sensitive youth of the current generation—particularly those from the *Savarna* (upper-caste) community—to acknowledge this historical error constitutes a monumental step toward fostering social cohesion.
Although the present generation did not perpetrate those injustices themselves—and may understandably feel offended by facing recrimination for them—demonstrating empathy for that suffering, and encouraging their Dalit brethren to follow the path laid out by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and the Indian Constitution, reflects a deeply mature and progressive mindset. The Constitution serves as the unifying principle that guarantees equal rights to us all.
2. Myth vs. Science
Narratives recorded in religious scriptures were often symbolic in nature or grounded in the imaginative constructs of their respective eras. When we interpret these narratives literally or mistake them for scientific truths, hypocrisy and dogma inevitably emerge.
The Earth's Foundation: Science has conclusively proven that the Earth does not rest upon the hood of a mythical serpent (*Sheshnag*); rather, it orbits the Sun within the cosmos, governed by the laws of gravity.
*Patal Lok* (The Netherworld): According to geology, there exists no distinct "netherworld" beneath the Earth's surface; instead, one finds layers comprising the crust, mantle, and core, along with molten lava. To accept the existence of such realms without any empirical evidence is to actively perpetuate superstition.
3. The Unscientific Origins of the *Varna* System
The manner in which the *Rigveda*—specifically the *Purusha Sukta*—describes the origin of the four *Varnas* (with the *Brahmin* emerging from the mouth, the *Kshatriya* from the arms, the *Vaishya* from the thighs, and the *Shudra* from the feet) stands in absolute contradiction to the principles of biology and the human reproductive system. The Science of Reproduction and Logical Inquiries: Human birth is possible solely through the biological union (sexual intercourse) of a man and a woman, facilitated by their respective reproductive organs. This raises a direct and logical question: Did God possess a biological "system" (reproductive organ) within His mouth—a mechanism through which a child could be conceived, either via penile penetration or the transmission of semen? The primary functions of the mouth are eating, drinking, speaking, and expectorating; how, then, could the processes of sexual intercourse and conception possibly take place there? Furthermore, would God not have consumed any food or drink during that period? How could any living being come into existence without the biological elements—semen and the ovum—contributed by both a male and a female?
The Illusion of Birth from the Feet: Similarly, it is an equally valid question to ask whether God’s feet, too, harbored a reproductive system capable of giving birth to human beings (specifically, the Shudras). The notion that a human being could be born from the mouth, arms, thighs, or feet is, from a scientific standpoint, entirely impossible and utterly absurd.
Socio-Politics: Sociologists contend that this creation narrative was not a biological event, but rather a socio-political construct—devised to stratify society into a hierarchy of high and low status, thereby establishing the dominance of a specific class.
The Logic of Purity: Your argument is highly pertinent: if God’s feet are deemed worthy of worship, how can those born *from* His feet be considered "untouchable"? Conversely, how did the mouth—an orifice through which we consume a variety of substances and which serves as a host for bacteria—come to be regarded as the most sacred of all? This demonstrates conclusively that this social stratification was not of divine origin, but was instead fabricated by humans for their own convenience and self-interest.
4. Conclusion: Liberation from Hypocrisy and the Path of Humanity
When an individual adopts a logical and rational mindset, the distinction between genuine spirituality and mere hypocrisy or superstition becomes starkly evident. A person's true greatness is determined not by their birth or caste, but by their deeds and their thoughts. The scientific and egalitarian perspective championed by Babasaheb Ambedkar constitutes the most pressing necessity of our times. Only when every section of society abandons superstition and embraces science and the Constitution will a truly strong and united India be built.
