In 2016, the world was touched by a heartbreaking photo of a young boy named Hope. Weak, hungry, and alone, he had been abandoned on the streets of Nigeria and was suffering from severe malnutrition.

That moment, however, became the start of a new life for him. Danish humanitarian Anja Ringgren Løvén found Hope and quickly took him to safety, where he received urgent medical care and support.

The photo drew worldwide attention and reminded many people of the importance of kindness and helping those in need. With Anja’s care, Hope was given a chance to grow, learn, and build a better future.

Today, Hope has graduated from school, showing how one act of compassion can change a life forever.

🌍 AFRICA BEFORE COLONIALISM: A CONTINENT OF GREAT CIVILIZATIONS 🌍

Long before the colonial partition of Africa at the Berlin Conference of 1884–1885, the continent was home to thriving kingdoms, empires, and civilizations that shaped history.

Across Africa stood remarkable states such as the Songhai Empire, Mali Empire, Ancient Egypt, Nubia, Great Zimbabwe, the Ashanti Kingdom, Kingdom of Kongo, Luba Kingdom, Zulu Kingdom, the Swahili City-States, Hausa Kingdoms, Kanem-Bornu, and many others.

These societies built prosperous trade networks stretching across the Sahara, the Red Sea, and the Indian Ocean. They developed systems of governance, advanced agriculture, metallurgy, architecture, scholarship, and rich cultural traditions. Centers such as Timbuktu became renowned for learning and commerce, attracting scholars from far beyond Africa.

The colonial era dramatically reshaped the continent through new borders, foreign rule, and profound political, economic, and social changes. Yet Africa's history did not begin with colonization, nor was its story defined by it.

Today, learning about Africa's pre-colonial past is an opportunity to appreciate the continent's diversity, resilience, and achievements while reflecting on how its people can shape an even stronger future.

Africa's story is one of innovation, strength, and perseverance—and it continues to be written by its people.
