President for the newly formed People’s Development Party (PDP) Kondwani Nankhumwa has bowed out of the presidential race for the elections held on September 16, 2025.
"There can only be one winner. Preliminary results from tally centers across the country indicate that PDP will not carry the crown in this election. We accept this reality with humility." Said Nankhumwa in a statement issued on Saturday but promise to return strongly in the next general elections in 2030.
He indicated that the party has earned parliamentary representation in its very first election cycle and has since urged supporters to keep calm, keep faith, and keep believing.
‘’By contesting in this election, PDP has not only learned but has also shown that it has a place in shaping the future of this country. When MEC officially announces the winner of the presidential election, PDP will duly congratulate that winner." Said Nankhumwa
Nankhumwa also mentioned that the party has earned itself as a new voice providing alternative solutions to the many challenges facing Malawians promised to continue the mission of offering solutions to the country.

As at 5pm, 4,332, 171 people have casted their votes out of the registered 7,203, 390 voters, representing 60 percent.
Of the total voters, 55 percent are female and 45 percent are male.
Lilongwe city has the lowest turn out of voters with 22 percent while Likoma has the highest with record with 79 percent.
