One of the biggest questions in Assassin’s Creed has always been simple: were the Assassins actually right… or did the Templars have a point?

The Assassins fight for freedom. Their belief is that people should have free will, even if that freedom leads to chaos, war, and conflict. Characters like Ezio Auditore and Edward Kenway believed humanity grows stronger when people are allowed to choose their own path.

The Templars, however, see the world differently. They believe peace can only exist through control and order. To them, humanity is too divided, selfish, and dangerous to govern itself properly. Villains like Haytham Kenway often made fans question whether the Templars were truly evil — or simply willing to do terrible things for what they believed was the greater good.

That’s what makes Assassin’s Creed so interesting. The series rarely presents the conflict as pure good versus evil. Both sides want peace. The difference is how far they’re willing to go to achieve it.

The Assassins fight for liberty.
The Templars fight for stability.

And depending on the situation, both ideologies can sound terrifying… or completely reasonable.

Maybe that’s why this debate has lasted for years among fans. Because deep down, Assassin’s Creed was never just about hidden blades and parkour — it was always about philosophy, power, and the cost of freedom.

A World War 1 setting could make Assassin’s Creed feel darker and more intense than ever before 💣🔥 Trench warfare, collapsing empires, secret espionage missions, and hidden Assassin operations across war-torn cities could create one of the most unique settings in the franchise.

Instead of massive medieval battlefields or pirate oceans, players could infiltrate occupied territories, sabotage military operations, and uncover conspiracies during one of the deadliest wars in human history 👀⚔️ Stealth-focused gameplay, disguises, early firearms, trains, and urban warfare could completely change the Assassin’s Creed formula while still keeping the core themes of secrecy and political conflict.

A WW1 era could also connect perfectly with the Assassin vs Templar war 🌍🔥 Governments, intelligence agencies, and world leaders secretly manipulated by hidden organizations would fit naturally into Assassin’s Creed lore. Dark atmospheres, destroyed cities, and emotional wartime storytelling could make it one of the franchise’s most mature experiences.

At the same time, some fans believe modern weapons and trench warfare would reduce the classic parkour, sword combat, and stealth style that defines Assassin’s Creed ❌ They prefer older historical eras where melee combat and freer exploration play a larger role.
