Ever seen a knife and wondered…
👉 Is that actually blood?

In forensic investigations, we don’t guess—we test.

Presumptive blood tests can reveal hidden evidence in seconds… but they’re not always what they seem.

🧪 Would you trust a positive result?

When a death investigator arrives at a scene, what do you think they determine first?

Most people get this wrong.

I break this down step-by-step in my Death Investigation course:

From a pattern comparison standpoint, the shoe impression outside Dylan’s room does not align with a Vans outsole.

Vans footwear typically features small, closely packed diamond patterns. The observed impression shows larger, more widely spaced diamonds, suggesting a different class of footwear—potentially a hiking shoe or boot.

Comparable tread patterns can be seen in brands such as Rock and Run.

Can you think of similar brands with diamond patterned outsoles?

Evidence Over Assumption

It sounds simple. It’s not.

Assumptions are fast. Easy. Comfortable.
Evidence takes time. Discipline. Restraint.

In forensic work, the moment you think you know what happened…
is usually the moment you stop looking.

That’s where mistakes are made.

Every scene deserves to be understood—not guessed.

That’s the standard.

🩸 Everyone wants to know what happened.

But scenes don’t speak in words.
They speak in patterns.

Most people look at blood and see something emotional.
Investigators look at it and ask:

Where did it start?

What direction was it moving?

What changed between the first drop and the last?

Because the difference between a story…
and what actually happened…
is usually hidden in the details no one else notices.

What’s the first thing you look for at a scene?

Kurt Cobain died from a shotgun wound inside his mouth.

Many investigators assume this type of contact wound would always produce blood on the hands.

From a bloodstain pattern perspective, is that necessarily true?
