The Brave Little Toaster is an absolute nightmare. Always has been. Always will be. It's hard for me to believe that we all watched this movie as kids without losing our damn minds. Let's talk about that Groucho Marx mask on display in Terror Train, because it has absolutely horrified me as a kid. It also horrifies me now. The mask is a vintage vinyl mask manufactured by the French company César, which explains why I always thought it looked so uniquely uncanny and unsettling; ALL of their masks have this weird, otherworldy, frightening quality to them. Something about those distorted, hollow features under the train car lighting turns a cheesy New Year's Eve slasher into Nightmare Fuel. Look, I know the horror genre has some wild sequels, but Leprechaun in the Hood and Leprechaun Back 2 Tha Hood have absolutely no business being as genuinely entertaining as they are. On paper, they sound like pure ridiculousness, but I think the execution is just so much damn fun. Warwick Davis was clearly having the absolute time of his life with those scripts. Dudes, Pee-wee's Big Adventure is an absolute nightmare. Always has been, and honestly, I have always loved it for that. People treat it like this wacky, innocent childhood comedy, but it is absolute nightmare fuel from top to bottom. Tim Burton brought out his inner horror director for this one. Am I the only person on the entire planet who actually prefers The Haunted Mask II over the original? Everyone always praises the first one, but I feel like the sequel improves on everything. The storyline feels more intense, the old man mask itself looks way creepier, and honestly, even the TV show adaptation of the second book felt much better produced and atmospheric. As a kid, my brain totally scrambled the timeline for Beetlejuice. For whatever reason, I distinctly remember thinking that the infamous, badass cartoon series came out first, and that the 1988 live-action film was actually based on the show. Because of that, watching the movie totally threw me for a loop. I sat there so confused, wondering why on earth they made Beetlejuice a creepy antagonist instead of being best friends with Lydia like he was in the cartoon. I always look back and laugh at that. I still remember how much people hyped up X when it first dropped, and man, what a letdown for me. I went in expecting some groundbreaking horror masterpiece, but it just felt like a standard, paint-by-numbers slasher movie. Seriously, what was everyone so obsessed with? Now, PEARL on the other hand? That movie absolutely earned every single bit of its praise. Mia Goth was a force of nature, and her psychological descent was genuinely gripping.
