* Do you know what is bidah (Bidaa't)
?
Bid‘ah means adding a new belief or religious practice into Islam that has no proof from the Qur’an or the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ. It is when something is done as worship or considered part of religion, even though the Prophet ﷺ and his companions (sahaba R.A) never practiced it.

* And what people do they should not?

On Shab-e-Baraat, many people do things that they should not do because they are bid‘ah. These include doing special fixed prayers, keeping a fast only because it is Shab-e-Baraat, lighting lamps, fireworks, or decorating, distributing food or sweets thinking it is a special religious duty, and believing this night is equal to Laylat-ul-Qadr. These actions were not done by the Prophet ﷺ or his companions, so making them part of religion is bid‘ah.

* Did shab-e-baraat word or anything about it mentioned in Qur'an or Hadiths?

No, the words “Shab-e-Baraat” and a specific night of mid-Sha‘ban are not mentioned in the Qur’an.

* Then which night is really mentioned for ibaadat of Allah and what we should really do on that night?

The only night clearly mentioned in the Qur’an for special worship is Laylat-ul-Qadr (The Night of Decree), which comes in the last ten nights of Ramadan. Allah says this night is better than a thousand months. On this night, Muslims should do extra ‘ibadat such as nafl salah, du‘a, reciting the Qur’an, dhikr, and seeking forgiveness. The Prophet ﷺ especially taught this du‘a:
“Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa‘fu ‘anni”
(O Allah, You are Most Forgiving and You love to forgive, so forgive me.)


* And which surah revealed on this night?


On Laylat-ul-Qadr, Surah Al-Qadr (Surah 97) was revealed.
This surah talks about Laylat-ul-Qadr itself and tells us that the Qur’an was sent down on this night.
