One theory suggests that during a battle, Rumi’s mother (often called Hina by fans) was dragged into the demon realm, where she was imprisoned and forced to survive among demons.

Here’s where it gets chilling. In “Golden,” Rumi sings about darkness, pressure, and being “given a throne”—lyrics that may hint not just at fame, but inheritance. What if Hina didn’t simply fall for a random demon… but for the Demon King, Gwi-Ma? A twisted Hades & Persephone scenario.

The theory goes: Hina made a deal with Gwi-Ma—she could return to the human realm to give birth, but her soul would belong to him. Rumi survives. Her mother doesn’t. Raised as a hunter, not a demon, Rumi becomes something Gwi-Ma cannot fully control.

An alternate take? The “throne” Rumi mentions may symbolize legacy, not demonic royalty—her inheritance as both a Sunlight Sister’s daughter and a future huntress, amplified by her unique markings.

What if Derpy is actually Rumi’s mother… transformed by Gwi-Ma?

Looking closely at the beginning of the movie, Rumi’s mom wears a blue shirt, has black hair, and is surrounded by flowers — hinting at her gentle nature and love for them. Interestingly, one of Derpy’s first meaningful actions is carefully fixing a fallen flower pot, a subtle parallel that feels intentional 🌸

The Tiger & Bird symbolism is also key. Two opposites that shouldn’t coexist — just like Hunters and Demons. The bird is clearly demonic (possibly Rumi’s father), constantly stealing the hat — maybe a habit from his human life. Meanwhile, the Tigress could represent Derpy’s original form. Even Rumi’s first question to her says it all: “What are you?”

Derpy’s bond with Jinu may come from recognizing his love for music — believing he can still be saved. She can also pass through the Honmoon without demonic ripples, showing a unique connection to it… and she chooses to stay with Rumi even after the new Honmoon is formed.

Since Gwi-Ma can alter appearances, the theory is chilling:
In a past battle, he transformed Rumi’s parents into animal forms — stripping them of their voices, their ability to sing, and their place on stage.
