10 days. 2,000+ miles. 9 countries.

I left South Wales with a simple plan: point the BMW F850GS east and see where the road takes me.

Since then I've ridden through:

🏴 Wales
🏴 England
🇫🇷 France
🇧🇪 Belgium
🇳🇱 Netherlands
🇩🇪 Germany
🇨🇿 Czech Republic
🇵🇱 Poland
🇸🇰 Slovakia

The journey has taken me from Welsh mountain roads to Germany's forests, through the Czech Republic's incredible twisties, across southern Poland and into the High Tatras of Slovakia.

No bookings. No deadlines. No fixed route.

Just good roads, mountain passes, changing weather, unexpected discoveries and one fully loaded BMW F850GS Adventure.

Today I'm looking across the Tatras and asking myself:

Where should I go next?

🇷🇴 Romania and the Carpathians?
🇭🇺 Hungary?
🇸🇮 Slovenia?
🇦🇱 Albania?
Or somewhere else entirely?

Lately I've been wondering if many of us are touring too fast.

I've never been someone who plans trips months in advance.

I prefer to leave when the mood takes me. I find I'm in a much better frame of mind for the adventure ahead when I haven't spent weeks building expectations about how the trip should go.

But even then, once I'm on the road, it's easy to fall into the habit of always looking towards the next destination.

The next town.
The next viewpoint.
The next mountain pass.
The next campsite.

The strange thing is, some of my favourite memories didn't happen while riding at all.

They happened when I stopped.

An extra coffee in a small village.

A walk through a forest I'd originally planned to ride straight past.

A conversation with a stranger.

Sitting somewhere with no agenda other than being there.

The older I get, the more I'm starting to think that great touring isn't about how much ground you cover.

It's about how much of a place you actually experience.

I'm not talking about riding less.

I'm talking about leaving enough space in the day to notice where you've ridden to.

So I'm curious...

When you're touring, are you trying to cover ground or experience places?

Would you rather ride 300 miles and see five locations...

Or ride 150 miles and properly explore one?

A brief stop on this morning's ride east.

The sun was still low, shimmering across a golden wheat field, turning an ordinary roadside pause into something worth remembering.

One of those moments that reminds me why travelling by motorcycle is different. You don't just pass through places — you experience them.

A few minutes later, I was back in the saddle and rolling on.
