Gday everyone. I know it's been a while since I've posted on this channel. Over the summer I planned to make a video with my kids as wel swam, surfed and fished down by the coast over the summer holidays. I just ended up having too much fun and didn't get round to it. It has been great to get the kids outdoors though. My Daughter Ema has done very well at picking up surfing. My wife heads back to Uganda in April though for 2 weeks over the school holidays. That means I will be with my kids for 2 whole weeks full time parenting during holidays. The only sensible solution will be to go on a week long camping trip in the pajero. I'm thinking a big driving loop camping in the high country and fishing and then heading down to the coast. You can bet I'll make a video on that when it's done! Otherwise my fulltime channel @TheBeardedBushranger will have continual uploads over there if you are interested in that stuff. Good on ya.
To anyone interested, you can watch my interview with Mattsy (@TheSillySwagman) at the @alton_goods headquarters in Brisbane. Watch it on the Alton youtube channel. Or go here:
New video going up tommorow at 4:00 pm. It's about time I kick into 2024. I'm planning to go hard on the channel this year and see how I can grow it. Starting off the year will be a 2 part series on my multi day hike on a remote African mountain. Stay tuned for this one as it's going to be a great video.
Parasites and Worms! Gday everyone. I know it has been very quiet on the channel latly. Don't think I've given up on youtube. I'm still in Uganda and inbetween getting sick, family functions to attend, and the power outages going on every second day .. I'm finding it hard to fit in time to edit my videos. But rest assured by the end of this month I will have a bunch of videos ready to go. My big trek in the mountains will be a 2 part series and the first part should be posted on the 28th. I have another camp lined up where I plan to build a shelter in a jungle area here and spend the night under some palm leaves. Also .. did I mention about getting sick? well looks like I picked up some kind of parasite (could of been Schistosomiasis / bilharzia .. look it up) when I was in the mountains. I suspect when cooling off in a little stream. What insured was a week of cramps, headaches and toilet runs. Luckily a good de wormer has done the trick. But it's just the norm here in tropical east Africa and hasn't been my first rodeo with an infectious parasite.
This year looks to be a cracker .. with some things in place, I'm hoping to give this year a red hot crack at the youtube thing. So from Feburary onwards look out. Thanks again for all the support people.
There are some places in the far flung corners of the world that just take your breath away. In a region that has largely been slow to see foreigners explore until recently, Mount Moroto in the Karamojong region of Uganda has got to be one of the most epic mountains you've probably never heard about. 4 days in the area and 2 nights up on the mountain had me sunburnt, battered and a bit bruised. We are talking almost 2000 meters of elevation gain on the first day. But almost every corner and section of the mountain you're left looking at a view that you feel is otherworldly. Almost like it's not entirely real and your walking through some kind of a dreamscape. By the last day I was casually walking past some of the most spectacular scenery that on any given day I would taking a thousand photos of, but due to the overdosing of views I just couldn't keep up with capturing it all. The generosity of the local people, the hunters and cattle keepers living on the mountain that I would bump into, also made this walk something special. I think I have found my new favorite place in Uganda to visit.
This video is going to be a mammoth task to edit up. Especially as I am here in Uganda where regular power is not something to rely on and running the laptop can be a challenge.
I suspect this will be a 2 part series and should be out by the end of Jan.
Otherwise thanks for all the support and enjoy your holidays.
Gday everyone.
Hope you are doing well. Seems like its been a while since posting an update here. Last week I posted a 'Whats in my pack' video for those of you interested in what I carry along with me.
But I also got back from a trip with my 7 year old son where I introduced him to his first survival challenge. We spent 3 days in the high country wilderness trying to live off the land (or river)
It was a challenge, and a bit of backup biltong was certainly made use of .. but I think we achieved a pretty good result.
That will be coming out next week so stay tuned.
Thank you again for all the support that you give ... I will be aiming to put out a video every fortnight for the rest of the year.
And then next year I have some exciting news for the channel .. so stay tuned.
What do you do when you're on an epic coastal trip with two other youtubers ... both bigger than your little channel. Do you try and compete and make your own 25-to-30-minute video alongside them? Or take the opportunity to experiment and try something different? That's what I opted for when I headed out with Scotty and Mattsy from Scottys gone walkabout and The Sillyswagman last week. We spent 4 days on the coast living off the sea and it was amazing. Such nice genuine blokes with a love for the outdoors.
But I'm glad I wasn't among it trying to narrate and tell the story of the trip, and instead got to relax a bit ... Scotty and Mattsy have that kind of a video covered perfectly. Instead, I decided to do something I have always wanted to do and get a bit more experimental ... make a video with no talking or narration at all. Just try to capture the beauty of the landscape and the sounds of the environment and whip it up into a short 8-minute cinematic trailer. Inspired by my bodyboard and surfing roots and the kind of videos I grew up watching .. this is more an immersion into the landscape of the trip .. with a bit of a tease here and there into the funny and epic moments that we had. My video will be released tomorrow at 5:00 pm, and I do hope you enjoy it. It is one of my favorite videos I have got to make this year .. though possibly not one that will generate the views.
But that's ok.
So, if you watch the vid and feel like you didn't get a full sampling and taste of what the trip was about ... good! You will get to hang out for Scotty and Mattsys videos which will go into much more detail. Let's just say this video is there to wet the appetite so to speak.
But after this video, it will be back to my regular format of film-making with my big ginger bearded noggin making many apparencies .. talking through the experience.
Gday everyone. Sorry no video post tonight! I've been putting in the good yards helping out my wife with the kids the last few weeks because I have a big trip planned in the coming days. I'll be heading out with a couple of youtubers you may know of for a bit of a survival coastal hike for 4 days. Very remote coastline we are heading to and pumped to try and live off the ocean and give this a fair crack. I have been meticulously wieghing up everything and trying to get the pack as lightwieght as possible, as well as studying the topo map for this one. Everything is packed and ready, so in the coming weeks you should see a few videos coming out on the channel! Cheers everyone.
For all my new subscribers out there. I'd highly reccomend checking out my mate mattsys channel and his latest snow camping video. He is basically a modern day bush poet in the order of lawson and patterson at this point. And his philosphical ramblings as he punishes himself outdoors is very entertaining. I'd highly reccomend.
Gday everyone. Welcome to all the new subscribers, it's great to see the channel picking up some steam. Just an update that there will be no video upload today. I have been posting fortnightly regularly over the last few months and I know today would of been the day I post a new video. Now that I am monitized it has been good just to sit back and have a break. BUT ... that doesn't mean a video is not in the works ... over the last few weeks I've been building a tarp shelter down the back paddock near the bushland at home and expirementing with some bushcraft with the kids. We have also been tracking some wildlife and it's going to be a pretty cool video. This is expected to be up next weekend. Thanks again for all the support and here are a few photos from the little project.
