“Chasing Rainbows” by Charlotte Colbert.

Chasing Rainbows is a striking contemporary sculpture by British-French artist and filmmaker Charlotte Colbert, known for blending surrealism, feminism, and dreamlike symbolism in her work. The piece features a monumental double-sided eye, mounted on arching legs that form a gateway-like structure, creating a surreal portal for viewers to walk beneath.

Colbert often explores themes of perception, imagination, and the subconscious, and Chasing Rainbows embodies these ideas visually. The giant eyes symbolize awareness and awakening, inviting people to reflect on how they see the world and themselves. By placing the viewer physically beneath the gaze of the sculpture, the work creates a playful yet thought-provoking interaction between art and audience.

The title suggests the pursuit of dreams and possibilities—“chasing rainbows” as a metaphor for hope, creativity, and the human desire to seek beauty beyond ordinary reality. The whimsical design contrasts with the serious underlying message about vision, empowerment, and personal transformation.

Public installations like Chasing Rainbows demonstrate Colbert’s ability to merge sculpture, storytelling, and surreal imagery into accessible urban art. The work encourages passersby to pause, look up, and engage with art in everyday spaces, transforming a simple walk through the city into a moment of curiosity and wonder.

How would that make you feel?
