🚨Theory: Lila (Chrysalis) is blackmailing Aglaé, and her fear of butterflies has a darker origin.

With the latest episode of Miraculous Ladybug, the mystery surrounding Aglaé has become even more intriguing. Many fans speculate that she could be Lila or working for her, but although she doesn’t fully match her physically, there’s something that makes me think the truth might be much more complex… and more tragic.

My theory is that Lila (under her identity as Chrysalis) is blackmailing or manipulating Aglaé into providing her with information about Marinette’s group of friends. Her mission would be to infiltrate, gain their trust, and gather data about the holders—especially about Ladybug’s true identity.

That’s why, during Alix’s birthday, Aglaé was initially present with the group of friends, commented on Marinette’s absence, then disappeared—and later Lila (Chrysalis) said the exact same thing.

What’s interesting is how this could completely reinterpret what we know about Aglaé:

🦋 We’ve been led to believe that her fear of butterflies comes from past akumatizations (which also involve butterflies). But what if that’s not the case? What if that fear reflects her present, not her past?

Think about it: Lila, now Chrysalis, has the butterfly as her main symbol. If Aglaé is being threatened or blackmailed by her, the butterflies would represent that constant control—her tormenting presence day and night. Every butterfly she sees wouldn’t be a memory, but a reminder that she’s being watched.

This would also explain why Aglaé looks so tired, with dark circles and tense behavior. She doesn’t seem like just a “weird” or “traumatized” girl, but someone carrying an enormous psychological burden. Her gaze conveys guilt and anguish, as if she hates what she’s doing but has no other choice.

In that sense, Aglaé wouldn’t be a villain or a willing ally of Lila, but rather another victim of her manipulation—a girl trapped in a web of threats, forced to lie, pretend, and betray her friends to protect something—or perhaps someone—Lila is using to pressure her.

And if this is true, then her “fear of butterflies” wouldn’t symbolize what she suffered under Monarch, but what she’s currently suffering because of Chrysalis. A metaphor for her fear of Lila’s control and the trauma of knowing she’s being watched and used.
