On this day in 1991, the world lost one of the greatest singers and showman of all time, Mr. David Ruffin.
I like to call him Mr. Showstopper because that's exactly what he did. He made each performance fun and unique to him. He brought his unique high pitch scream as well as them moves on stage that you can't deny was amazing!
Even though he is no longer on earth with us, his memory and legacy live on.

Today I thought I'd share a couple of rare pictures of Paul at the opening of his boutique "Celebrity House West" in Detroit. This took place in May of 1969.
In these pictures, Paul is seen with his son Paul Williams Lucas along with a couple of neighborhood kids that Paul named "Celebrity House Roadrunners." Also pictured are some friends and colleagues as well.

He had the biggest heart and wanted to share his knowledge and skills with those who genuinely had the interest and hunger for it. Mr. Neale said Paul was his mentor and friend and always shows so much appreciation for Paul.

This picture was taken in March 1966 during rehearsals at their run at the Whiskey A Go-Go in Hollywood! During this time they were also captured along with the other Tempts, doing the dance craze that was sweeping the world, "The Temptation Walk," which Paul created. That dance was the blueprint for a lot of vocal groups that came after.
What I love about this picture is how it shows the difference in Paul and Melvin's style and presence on stage. Paul was more focus, polished and precise whereas Melvin was more bouncy and animated. Together you couldn't take your eyes off of them because they were just so... DYNAMIC together!

Happy Temptin' Tuesday! Today I'm sharing a picture of our guys outside of the Fox Theater in Detroit in 1965. They were part of the famous Motortown Revue that included other Motown acts such as The Supremes, The Four Tops, Marvin Gaye, The Vandellas and more!
This photograph of Melvin, Paul, and Eddie of the famous Motown group, @TheTemptations, was taken inside of Paul’s office at his Celebrity House West boutique during opening weekend in May 1969.
For some people that don’t know, Paul was more than an entertainer. He was also invested as an entrepreneur ans businessman, opening up his own boutique in Detroit to help the community. Many who knew him during his short life span, he was always labeled as a people person and tried his best to help anybody out, even if he didn't know the person.
Today's post is doubling not only as a very rare picture of Paul, but also a spotlight on an amazing woman for Black History Month! This picture is Paul along with Lucile A. Watts, whom was the first black woman to be elected as a circuit court judge in Michigan. This picture was taken at Paul's place of business, "Celebrity House West" in May of 1969.
Ms. Watts was recruited by Great Lakes Mutual Insurance Company to assist with the release of black men arrested during the 1967 Detroit riot. She joined other African-American lawyers in the community to organize and coordinate in defending the men and seeking their release She also served as a board member at Focus: HOPE for 20 years, Woodward Academy, the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, a lifetime member of the NAACP, and a National Honorary Member of Distinction of the Gamma Phi Delta Sorority.
