Welcome to my world.
I’m a Bosnian American who moved to the United States at 27, starting completely from scratch. I’m originally from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and today I live in Westchester, just outside New York City.
On this channel, I share my journey — the ups, the doubts, the rebuilding, and everything in between.
What you’ll find here:
• Slow, intentional glimpses into my daily life
• Gardening and building a home from the ground up
• Home renovation projects
• Travel reflections
• Honest thoughts on identity, growth, and philosophy
This space is about becoming — at any age, in any place.
Bosnian Abroad
This week was one of those weeks where life felt very busy. I had to travel into New York City multiple times for a conference, and my commute from Westchester to Manhattan always reminds me how unique life near NYC really is.
Even though the NYC subway can be chaotic, there is something I strangely enjoy about trains and watching people pass by during the ride.
After the conference, I went to Astoria, Queens, to visit my cousin and stop by a European market where I often buy foods that remind me of home. Growing up in Bosnia, certain flavors and ingredients bring back memories and make me feel connected to where I come from.
I also visited a small plant shop in Astoria, where I love chatting with the owner and sometimes leaving with plants I probably don’t need.
Back at home in Westchester, we spent some time working in the yard. Zlatko removed some old branches from a dying maple tree, and I planted a few new bulbs for the summer. Working with the soil always helps me slow down and feel grounded.
This period of my life feels a little emotional because I am three weeks away from surgery, and sometimes it makes me reflect on what kind of life I want to build in the future.
Between the busy days, the NYC commute, comfort food like ramen, and small moments in the garden, I’m trying to find balance.
Next week I will be traveling for a business trip, and the week after that I will have my surgery.
Wish me luck.

Hey everyone! I hope you're doing well, staying healthy, and feeling good.
Last week, I took some time to make tomato sauce for pasta using tomatoes from my garden I really needed that comforting, homemade feeling.
I'd love to hear how you make yours!

Bosnian Abroad
Welcome back to our Bosnian house and garden in Westchester ( for all of you reading this )
We just returned from a month in Italy and Bosnia— full of beauty, family, food, and long walks through unfamiliar streets. It was everything I needed and didn’t know I needed. And now, here we are… back home.
The garden greeted us gently. Nothing wild. Nothing ruined. Just the quiet signs of time passing. Overgrown grass. Roses in need of pruning. A few weeds trying to take over. It felt kind of perfect.
Zlatko and I didn’t rush into things. We sat down first. Took a breath. Reflected on how lucky we are to have had that time away — to pause and just live. It made me think about this strange season I’m in. Where I feel a little lost. A little in-between. Without a clear job. Without a clear next step.
But maybe that’s not a bad thing. Maybe it’s just what needs to happen to make space for something better.
So we slowly got to work. I took care of the roses. Zlatko handled the grass and the weeds. We didn’t try to finish everything. Just enough to bring the garden back into rhythm.
As we were wrapping up, I finished the book I’d been reading. There was one line that stuck with me. It said asking someone how their day was is good. But asking what the best part of their day was — that opens something softer and more joyful.
So now, as I finish this video, and think of you watching on the other side of the screen, I want to ask
What was the best thing that happened to you today?
For me, it was simply knowing that everything is okay
Thank you for being here with me. If you felt a little peace while watching, consider subscribing. And if you’re able, take a few minutes today to enjoy doing nothing. Just the process. Just being.
See you in the next one

This week went fast, but it left me thinking.
In this video, I reflect on the small wins, the dirt under our nails, and what it means to enjoy the process — even when it’s messy, bloated, or squeaky. From prepping our veggie garden before vacation to receiving our fruit trees (planting those in the next episode!), it’s been a full week of real life, slow moments, and soft reflections.
Also: I finally went on my first steep hike since breaking my legs two years ago. It was worth every step.
Thanks for being here — I hope you find a moment that resonates with you.

@bosnianabroad Every morning, before the world fully wakes up, I take a peaceful tour through my garden. It's become a grounding habit—checking on each plant, noticing new blooms, and soaking in the calm. This ritual not only keeps me connected to nature but also sets a positive tone for the day.

It’s finally spring in New York State, and I’m kicking off the season with a full yard cleanup. Clearing out old branches and getting the space ready to build a new wooden patio. After months of planning, we also finished installing a fence—so now my dog can finally enjoy some safe, off-leash time outside! #gardening #yard #urbangarden
