🌍 Global tensions are rising once again as former US President Donald Trump heads to Beijing for a high-stakes meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Trump stated that trade relations will be the main focus, but discussions surrounding Iran are also expected to play a major role during their “long talk”.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei strongly reacted to the ongoing US-Israel conflict involving Iran, calling it a battle between “a proud people” and “professional liars who fabricated justifications for atrocity.” His statement comes amid growing fears of a wider regional escalation.

At the same time, Trump’s latest remarks on the ceasefire have sparked controversy after he suggested that the ceasefire would continue “until I say so,” adding that he would end the war “peacefully or otherwise.” His comments are drawing intense reactions worldwide.

The humanitarian crisis is also worsening in Lebanon. According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, two paramedics were killed and another was injured in a targeted Israeli attack on emergency workers in southern Lebanon. The attack has triggered international concern over the safety of medical teams operating in conflict zones.

As world powers continue diplomatic talks and military tensions increase across the Middle East, many are questioning whether the region is moving toward stability — or a much larger conflict.

Has the US agreed to peace talks without Iran’s commitment?

US President Trump first said that JD Vance would not go to Islamabad because the Secret Service didn’t have enough time. But at the same time, his administration officials were telling everyone else that JD Vance was, in fact, going. We now know from a White House official that it will be JD Vance, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner who will be going. They were all in the first round of talks.

It would be extraordinary to have a US president announce that there will be peace talks with another nation without having the commitment from that nation to actually be at the peace talks. This has never happened before.

This is a president who has said he is not going to lift the blockade. Now, there’s some indication that Iran would be satisfied with the blockade being lifted, even if it isn’t publicly acknowledged. But this is a president who doesn’t like to be seen as backing down.

At the same time, this is a president who very, very clearly wants an off-ramp from this war. We saw him on Friday on social media basically implying it was over, that the Iranians had agreed to all of the US demands and that Iran didn’t get any of its demands.

Trump playing with ‘political dynamite’ in Strait of Hormuz

Atlantic Council Senior Advisor Harlan Ullman says it is unclear what Trump’s threat to blockade the Strait of Hormuz entails.

“For example, if a Chinese-owned or Chinese-flagged ship goes through the Strait, are they going to stop it? Are they going to sink it? That would be an act of war,” Ullman said.

“Unless we have a clear idea of what blocking the Strait of Hormuz actually means, we’re playing with political dynamite.”

A total blockade, rather than a partial one, would precipitate the global economic crisis while also raising “all sorts of questions of international law”, he added.
