Trump’s administration just announced a controversial $1.776 billion “Anti-Weaponization Fund” tied to a settlement with the IRS. According to reports, the fund is supposed to compensate people who claim they were wrongfully targeted or politically weaponized by the government — not just January 6 defendants.

That opens up a bigger conversation in America. If the government admits people can be unfairly targeted, then what about communities that have dealt with decades of surveillance, wrongful imprisonment, political crackdowns, and destroyed organizations? From Black activists and groups like MOVE, to families impacted by COINTELPRO, to people wrongfully convicted and trapped in cycles of poverty after government abuse — accountability shouldn’t only apply to one political side.

If justice is real, it has to be equal across the board.

A legal earthquake just shook the Justice Department. A federal judge ruled that a group of prosecutors installed in New Jersey violated the Appointments Clause of the U.S. Constitution, calling their roles “unconstitutional” and “illegal.”
