The Story Out West
Hi everyone!
I’m in crunch time right now finishing up the editing and animation for the first episode of my new series, which I think you’ll be pretty stoked about. You may notice my hair in the series is a bit longer than what you’re used to; that’s because I’m participating in Locks of Love. It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while now and I’m finally in a spot where I can do it. For more information you can check out their website here: locksoflove.org/
Take care and see you soon in the next video!

****IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT****
Hi everyone! I wanted to drop a quick update/announcement on the status of this channel and the direction it's headed.
As of this post, we're closing in on 28,000 subscribers, which honestly blows my mind. It's been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I can't tell you how deeply honored I am when you guys trust me to tell your family's and communities' histories. What started as an outlet for my nerdism has taken off in a way I couldn't have fathomed even a year ago. So lately I've been asking myself, where does this thing go from here?
I have an idea. One thing I'd really like to focus on is uniting a community of like-minded history nerds who have a passion for investigation and share a love of America's West. To that end, I've started a Patreon account here: patreon.com/TheStoryOutWest
If you feel the same way, I'd appreciate your support. To be honest, I don't really know too much about how Patreon works. But then again I didn't know jack about YouTube either when I started. Sometimes you just have to learn as you go.
What I'd like to do is offer people who help out through Patreon some extra stuff, and here's where I need your input. Which of these options would you like to see on Patreon?
- Ad-free videos
- Behind the scenes footage
- Additional exclusive content
- newsletter
- named as a contributor in future videos
- access to live webcasts/ Q&A
- ability to recommend video topics
- video thumbnail votes
Feel free to rack and stack these options in a comment to this post, head over to patreon.com/TheStoryOutWest and let me know what you think over there, and you can also always email me at storyoutwest@gmail.com. Thanks!
- Travis

This is going to be SUPER COOL! The Klamath County Museum is observing the 150th anniversary of the Modoc War by hosting a panel discussion next Saturday, on the 25th. Professor Boyd Cothran, author Robert McNally and I will be there, with Modoc Historian Cheewa James MCing!
Can't be there in person? Email museuminfo@klamathcounty.org for a Zoom invite. Whether you've never heard of the Modoc War or you know it inside and out, you WILL take something away from this discussion. More details here: www.facebook.com/events/598375052105673?active_tab…

156 years ago, the Fetterman Fight left dozens of dead and dying men strewn along a mile of the Bozeman Trail.
On the Army side, who do you think is most at fault for the defeat?

This weekend I’ll be out in the boonies grabbing video for the channel’s next series. With the editing, it might be a couple weeks before the next video, but I’m going to work super hard to make the wait worth it.
I’ll be roughing it for the next few days, so I packed only what I’ll need to survive and work. I used my time-honored packing list:
- sleeping gear with pad
- extra socks and warmies
- water and food
- rain gear
- insulated vest
- woobie
- trekking poles
- Bivy stick
- headlamp
- pipe w/ tobacco
- snakebite suction kit that is completely worthless but gives my wife peace of mind when I’m out solo
- flask of Ardbeg 10
