🏹 World Champion archer with 35+ years experience sharing instinctive shooting techniques | Historical bow, Longbow & Trad Recurve

I'm Giuseppe Bianchi "Papetto", a professional archer based in Palestrina (Rome, Italy). I founded the "XII HILL" Traditional Archery School in 1995, teaching instinctive shooting technique to hundreds of students over the decades. My son and other archers convinced me to start this channel to share my work and passion with you!

What you'll find here:
Uncut shooting challenges, tutorials, and my approach to instinctive archery with traditional hunting/3D equipment (World Archery; IFAA; HDH).

Instinctive Flow

In trad archery, you often hear that you need to shoot thousands of arrows with the same gear to master it—train until you're specialized and hyper-consistent with your bow!

And it's true, but that's not the whole story.

To differentiate between instinctive shooting and non-instinctive methods of aiming: with techniques where you aim with the arrow point, you need to have - among other things - arrows of the same length (usually much, much longer than the actual draw length of the archer) and all of the same weight.

Then, based on the distance you learn where the arrow point should be positioned on, above, or below the target, then estimate the distance and so forth.

Change any of these variables—slightly shorter or longer arrows, bow with a few lbs difference etc.—and the point of impact shifts dramatically.

Instead, one of the things that makes instinctive archery unique is its adaptability.

Not only does this shooting style allow you to develop adaptability with the ever-changing environment (downhill-uphill shots, moving targets, limited time, shooting on your knees, etc.), it also fosters versatility with your equipment—switching between different bows and arrows and quickly shooting with them while keeping fairly good accuracy.

Of course, in instinctive archery you still need a well-set-up bow and arrow system for consistent results.

But instead of focusing on the alignment of these specific parameters, you focus on developing a more totalizing shooting style, which allows you to adapt and still be reasonably good for both hunting and 3D archery, even when conditions or equipment change.

In the upcoming video, I’ll be shooting with 5 different bows—historical, longbow, traditional recurve, both right and left-handed (using my right hand). A couple of arrows at increasing distances with each one.

Stay tuned to see how it goes and shoot straight! 🏹
