If Serena in the mirror world acts differently than she does in the real world, it just means the real-world Serena is better and distinct even ash knows that. In which episode madsty clowns fans? We didn't watch og series right? Some people even claim that ash invited may or misty but that happened way later, not in their first interaction when battle frontier started ash told may to join with him. And same with misty he is happy to travel with her again in hoen region not in the start. But here we talk about "first interaction" and except serena no one invited like that, others girls already travelled with ash before he invited them. And yes a invitation isn't love, but the way he invited serena show more about how much he interested in travelling with her.
