Well… this escalated quickly. 😄

What started as a couple experimental songs turned into a full 12-song album about Model-Based Systems Engineering.

Yes, really.

The MBSE album is now live on streaming platforms. The songs cover everything from modeling and simulations to complexity, requirements, and the strange satisfaction of seeing a system actually work the way it was designed.

If you’ve been following the channel for a while, you already know I enjoy experimenting with new tools and ways of communicating engineering ideas. This was one of the more unusual experiments.

If you’re curious what MBSE sounds like as music, you can check it out here:

If you listen, tell me which track is your favorite. I’m curious which MBSE concepts translate best into music. 🎧

All of the videos on the MBSE iNsights channel will be deleted by 12:00 noon Eastern time October 9th, 2024. I truly hope they have been helpful to everyone. I’ve been honored to deliver them to such an engaging audience.

Be on the lookout for a new video today on the topic of Use Cases! I’ll demonstrate how to autogenerate Activity Diagrams based on Use Case narratives and show Included / Extended Use Cases and how they correlate to the main Use Case in an Activity Diagram. This ties in to the creation of a Domain Model by extracting the nouns from the narratives to create a first cut gray box system decomposition. Don’t miss it!

In the next video I’m planning to talk through the idea of “encapsulation.” If you’ve ever noticed, a Block has the attribute “isEncapsulated.” This is false by default but can be set it to true to indicate that all connections must enter through a part typed by that block and not lower level parts. This enables a modular open systems approach and Cameo has a validation rule to check if this is violated when isEncapsulated is set to true. A very useful concept and validation! Be on the lookout for the video!
