Hi y'all! Welcome to Questionable Soil Methods!
This is a field-based exploration of soil, worms, microbes, and living systems tested the long way, by hand, in real soil.
I’m not here to present perfection. I’m here to observe what actually happens when you work with living soil systems: compost, earthworms, microbial life, and record the response.
Expect experiments, trench beds, worm interactions, soil building, regenerative gardening methods, and occasional results that don’t behave the way textbooks say they should.
I cherish curiosity, observation, and hands-on ecological repair.
If you’re interested in:
worms and soil systems
microbial life in the garden
composting and regeneration
real-world gardening experiments
learning by doing instead of following rules . . . you’ll probably feel at home here.

Hi y'all!
I made a few changes on the back end of the channel, and I've dealt the algorithm a blow. I hope that it will all be worth it in the long run. While it recalibrates, I'll post new releases here in the Community tab. May the force be with us!
Here is a link to a video that I released today. It conveys some learned experience when it comes to planting herbs and medicinal plants. This is more of a cons list. These guys: stinging nettle, lemon balm, mint, blackberries, mullein, and comfrey. On the mint and lemon balm tip, if you know, you know. If you don't then this is for you.

Hi everybody!
I'm changing the name of the channel to Questionable Soil Methods! It better reflects the intent of this channel, and it will be more recognizable to the all-powerful algorithm.
I'm filming away and should have a new one for y'all by Sunday. See you soon!

Because I live in the woods, it is my responsibility to include the well-being of the wildlife that inhabits my surroundings in all of my garden plans. It burns especially bright as I watch many neighbors build fences and take any measures necessary to push the wildlife out of their spaces. Here are three choices. I'm curious to see the results. Speaking on behalf of wildlife feels like shouting into a void. But I know I'm not the only person who feels the connection. If anyone reading this feels the call of the wild, I hope you listen. It took me years to respond, but I'm here, I'm changed, and I'm grateful.

Want worm castings but, don't want to hassle of raising worms?
It isn't necessary to raise red wigglers to get rich, worm castings for your plants and gardens. It's easy to underestimate an earthworm. But, they more than pull their weight when bringing the worm goodness into your garden soil. A,d, once released into your garden they will be more at home than any food composting worm.

Big update on the long worm bed that is coming back from the dead. And, a good look at composting with wild worms experiment in the big box. Looks like a predator made it into the long bed. I'm starting to feel like I should wave some sage over that bed. It's one thing after another. On we go!

It is rainy and dreary on this side of the world and, blazing hot on the other. Might as well read. Here are a few books that I found helpful as I reconnected with nature. One of them completely changed me as a human. I'll never walk through nature in the same way again. Grateful. The others touch on soil science and, raising worms. These selections might help anyone who is contemplating the call of the wild-ish. Dirty hands~ happy heart.

Watch this to see compost going into an in-ground worm farm. Organic matter (OM) is an essential part of the Soil Food Web. Adding unfinished compost to your worm farm is a great way to increase organic matter and, boost your microbe population. Wherever you use it, worm farm, garden, and, landscape, the soil will be improved through the composts breakdown. What breaks it down? Microbes. How does the plant get it? The worm eats the microbes and, their juices oooooooze out of the worm from both ends. Then, the plant drinks the juices and, it all starts over again. And, again. COMPOST and MICROBES for the BIG WIN!

Fish water is as legit as any other manure. And, I know exactly what my fish eat every day. I took these guys in about six years ago. They have been living in their 300-gallon tub for two years as of this spring. I love them as much as any other pet. Goldfish don't get much respect but, they are wonderful fish. Very friendly and they like to engage with me and each other. Some of you requested more information on my filter system for the fish tub.
Here you go!
