PixInsight Acquires Siril — A New Era for Astrophotography
PixInsight, the industry-leading astronomical image processing platform, today announced the acquisition of Siril, the beloved open-source astrophotography software developed by the free software community.
The combined platform — to be rebranded PixSiril — will bring together PixInsight's powerful processing engine and professional-grade toolset with Siril's accessible, script-driven workflow and passionate open-source community.
"This is a historic moment for astrophotography," said a spokesperson for PixInsight's parent company, Pleiades Astrophoto S.L. "Siril has built something extraordinary, and together we will push the boundaries of what's possible under the night sky."
Siril's core development team will join PixInsight's engineering division, with both platforms continuing to operate independently during a transition period. The merged product roadmap is expected to be revealed later this year.
The deal, valued at an undisclosed sum, marks the largest consolidation in astrophotography software history.

It’s been over two months since I’ve been able to capture any images, so it felt great to finally get back out there! I didn’t have much acquisition time before the target drifted into the trees, but I’m still pretty happy with how it turned out.

Image taken Mar. 09, 2026.

The Orion Nebula (M42) is one of the most iconic and rewarding targets in astrophotography. Located in the constellation Orion, about 1,344 light-years from Earth, this massive star-forming region is part of the larger Orion Molecular Cloud Complex.

M42 is famous for its bright core, sculpted gas clouds, and incredible dynamic range. At the center lies the Trapezium Cluster, (which I completely blew out), a group of young, hot stars whose intense radiation excites the surrounding hydrogen gas, causing the nebula to glow.

147x60" exposures (2 hours 27 minutes)

Scope: Celestron EdgeHD8 with Hyperstar v3 (425mm f/2.1)
Mount: Sky-Watcher EQ6-R
Guiding: Unguided
Camera: SVBONY SC571CC
Filter: Optolong L-Pro

Siril 1.4.2 is now available!
Check out the release notes and download it here: siril.org/download/2026-02-18-siril-1-4-2/

There’s also an experimental Windows build that increases the 2048 file limit to 8192. Please note this version is experimental, so only install it if you specifically need the higher limit.

Additionally, a new Python script called GPU_Manager has been added to help with installing GPU frameworks. You can find it under Get Scripts.

I’ve had a lot of questions about how to support the developer of the VeraLux scripts for Siril, and the wait is over! Riccardo has officially set up a way to support his work. If you’d like to contribute, check it out here: buymeacoffee.com/riccardo.paterniti
