‘ছেলেরা আবার স্কিনকেয়ার করে নাকি?’ প্রতিটা ছেলেই জীবনে একবার হলেও এই প্রশ্নের সম্মুখীন হয়। মজার ব্যাপার হচ্ছে এই ধরনের প্রশ্ন কিন্তু মেয়েরা করে না। বরং ছেলেরাই ছেলেদেরকে করে। কোনো ছেলে বন্ধু যখন মুখে ময়েশ্চারাইজার লাগায়, তাকে নিয়ে প্রচুর হাসাহাসি হয়। ব্যাপারটা এমন, যেন উদ্ভট কিছু করে ফেলছে। অথচ স্কিনকেয়ার ছেলেদের জন্য আরো বেশি দরকারি। কারণ ছেলেদের স্কিন জেনেটিক্যালিই একটু রাফ এন্ড টাফ। যাদের ঘন দাড়ি আছে, তারা ড্রাইনেসটা খুব ভালোভাবেই ফিল করে। সো যত্নটা ছেলে-মেয়ে উভয়ের জন্যই দরকার।

এর মানে আবার এই না যে হেলদি স্কিনের জন্য আপনার ভুরি ভুরি প্রোডাক্ট ইউজ করা লাগবে। ব্যাপারটা মোটেই এমন না। সবার আগে যেটা দরকার, নিজের নিডটা জানা বা বোঝা। স্কিন টাইপটা আইডেন্টিফাই করা। কারো স্কিন খুব অয়েলি, কারো ড্রাই। কারোটা আবার দুইটার কম্বিনেশন। সেন্সিটিভ স্কিনের মানুষজনও আছে। সো কোনো প্রোডাক্ট অ্যাপ্লাইয়ের আগে নিজের স্কিন সম্পর্কে জেনে, বুঝে, রাইট প্রোডাক্টটা অ্যাপ্লাই করলে আপনি ভালো ফলাফল পাবেন।

এনিওয়ে, যেখানে ছেলেরা ফেইসওয়াশ বা ময়েশ্চারাইজারই ঠিকঠাক ইউজ করে না, সেখানে শাওয়ার জেল বা বডি লোশন নিয়ে আলাপ করাটা আসলে এক ধরনের বিলাসিতা। তারপরও দুই লাইন লিখি।

নরমালি শাওয়ারের সময় আমরা বার সোপ ব্যবহার করি। এই বার সোপ মূলত আমাদের স্কিনকে অতিরিক্ত ড্রাই করে ফেলে। কারণ এইসব সোপের pH ভ্যালু হাই থাকে। আই মিন সহনীয় মাত্রার চেয়ে বেশি।

pH ভ্যালু ব্যাপারটা কী? pH stands for potential hydrogen. p for potential, H for hydrogen. এইটা কী বোঝায়? এইটা কোনো কিছুতে হাইড্রোজেন আয়নের মাত্রা বোঝায়। আর একটু সহজ করে বলি, pH ভ্যালু বেশি মানে ঐটাতে হাইড্রোজেন আয়নের মাত্রা কম। ঐটা আপনার স্কিনকে অনেক ড্রাই করে ফেলে। ক্লিন করতে গিয়ে স্কিনের ন্যাচারাল অয়েলও শুষে নেয়। আর pH ভ্যালু কম মানে ঐটা mild বা gentle। স্কিনের সব ন্যাচারাল অয়েল শুষে নেয় না। pH ভ্যালু মূলত pH স্কেলের মাধ্যমে মেজার করা হয়। স্কেলের ভ্যালু (0–14) হয়ে থাকে। 7 is the neutral point. আই মিন কোনো সোপের pH ভ্যালু যদি 7 হয়, তাহলে ঐটা একটা নিউট্রাল জায়গায় আছে, আপনার স্কিনকে অতিরিক্ত ড্রাই করে ফেলবে না।

তবে এটাকে আইডিয়াল ধরা যাবে না। কারণ ন্যাচারালি আমাদের স্কিনের pH লেভেল 4.5 থেকে 5.5 হয়ে থাকে। এই ন্যাচারাল pH লেভেলটা আমাদের স্কিনকে জার্ম থেকে প্রটেক্ট করে, ইরিটেশনের মতো প্রবলেম থেকে সুরক্ষা দেয় এবং ময়েশ্চার ধরে রাখে। আমাদের স্কিন অনেক বেশি ড্রাই হয় না। সো আইডিয়াল ঐটা, যেটার pH লেভেল আমাদের স্কিনের pH লেভেলের কাছাকাছি। pH লেভেল যদি above 7 হয়, তাহলে ঐটা ডিপ ক্লিন করতে গিয়ে অতিরিক্ত ড্রাই করে ফেলে। সো আমরা এরকম কনক্লুশনে যেতে পারি যে above 7 স্কিনের জন্য খুব একটা ভালো না। যেহেতু এটা স্কিনকে অতিরিক্ত ড্রাই করে ফেলে।

pH ভ্যালুর উপর বেইজ করে সোপকে আমরা ব্রডলি দুইটা ক্যাটাগরিতে ভাগ করতে পারি। একটা acidic, আরেকটা alkaline। Acidic soap হইলো ঐগুলা, যেগুলার pH ভ্যালু below 7। আর যেগুলার pH ভ্যালু above 7, ঐগুলা alkaline soap। ন্যাচারালি স্কিনের pH ভ্যালু যেহেতু 4.5 থেকে 5.5 হয়ে থাকে, সুতরাং আমাদের স্কিন acidic সাইডে। তাই সোপটাও acidic হওয়া উচিত। নইলে স্কিন অতিরিক্ত ড্রাই হয়ে যায়।

আমরা শাওয়ারের জন্য নরমালি যে ধরনের সোপ ব্যবহার করি, এগুলার বেশিরভাগই বিউটি সোপ। বিউটি সোপগুলা মূলত alkaline soap। কারণ এগুলার pH ভ্যালু above 7। এগুলা আমাদের স্কিনকে অতিরিক্ত ড্রাই করে ফেলে। এজন্য সোপের একটা বেটার অল্টারনেটিভ হইতে পারে শাওয়ার জেল। শাওয়ার জেল সোপের মতো এতটা হার্শ না, মাইল্ড। এইটা আপনার স্কিনের ন্যাচারাল অয়েল শুষে নেয় না, gently ক্লিন করে। ছেলে-মেয়ে উভয়েই ব্যবহার করতে পারেন। আর সোপ ব্যবহার করলে খেয়াল রাখবেন সেটা যেন বিউটি সোপ না হয়। ময়েশ্চারাইজিং সোপ হইলে ভালো। বেবি সোপও ইউজ করতে পারেন। বাট পার্সোনালি, আই প্রেফার শাওয়ার জেল। ‘সোপ বা শাওয়ার জেল’ যেটাই ব্যবহার করেন, বডি লোশন ইজ আ মাস্ট। যেকোনো ধরনের ক্লিনজিং প্রোডাক্টই আমাদের স্কিনকে কিছুটা হলেও ড্রাই করে। তাই সেটাকে ব্যালেন্স করা উচিত। ময়েশ্চারাইজার বা বডি লোশন ঠিক এই কাজটাই করে।

যাইহোক, skin'O থেকে যখন আমাকে রিচ করা হয়, আমি ক্লিয়ারলি বলছি, প্রোডাক্ট ভালো হইলে অবশ্যই রিকমেন্ড করবো। তো ওরা আমাকে ওদের ‘Skin’O Tea Tree Oil Shower Gel’ আর ‘Innsaei Niacinamide Body Lotion’ পাঠায়, ট্রাই করার জন্য। নিজে কয়েকদিন ব্যবহারের পরেই লিখতেছি। These are actually good! Shower Gel-টা pH ব্যালেন্সড হওয়ায় স্কিন অতিরিক্ত ড্রাই হয় না। বডি লোশনটাও হাইড্রেশনের কাজটা ঠিকঠাকই করে।

অবশ্য যেকোনো স্কিনকেয়ার প্রোডাক্টের ক্ষেত্রেই সুট করার একটা ব্যাপার থাকে। আমার স্কিনে সুট করছে বলে যে আপনার স্কিনেও করবে, ব্যাপারটা মোটেই এমন না। ট্রাই করে দেখতে পারেন। কোরিয়ান বিউটি প্রোডাক্টের ফর্মুলেশন ব্যবহার করে locally প্রোডিউস করা হয়, হার্মফুল কোনো ইনগ্রিডিয়েন্টস নাই। এতোটুকু এনশিওর করতে পারি যে স্কিনের কোনো ক্ষতি করবে না। অনেক বকবক করলাম। ধন্যবাদ।

Almost every guy hears this question at least once in his life. Interestingly, it doesn’t come from girls; rather, it comes from other guys. A friend applies moisturizer and suddenly it’s a joke, like he just did something illegal.

But the truth is, skincare is actually more important for men. Men’s skin is naturally rougher. If you have a thick beard, you already know how real dryness feels. So yes, skincare is for everyone, not just women.

That doesn’t mean you need a shelf full of products. The real first step is understanding your skin type. Some have oily, some have dry. Combination and sensitive skin types exist as well. When you know your skin and choose the right products, results come naturally.

Now, let’s be honest. We live in a world where most men don’t even use facewash or moisturizer properly. So, talking about shower gel and body lotion sounds like a luxury. But it’s not, it’s actually a necessity.

Normally, during showers, we use bar soap. The problem is, most bar soaps are quite harsh. They usually have a high pH value, which means they don’t just clean dirt, they strip away your natural oils too. That’s why your skin feels dry after a shower.

Our skin naturally has a slightly acidic pH value, around 4.5 to 5.5, which protects the skin, keeps moisture in, and prevents irritation. When a product’s pH value is much higher than that, it cleans aggressively and leaves the skin dry.

That’s where shower gels come in as a better alternative. They’re generally milder, more skin-friendly, and clean gently without over-drying. And no matter what cleanser you use, soap or shower gel, body lotion is a must. Cleansing always removes some moisture and lotion helps bring that balance back.
