"Where is everybody?" Enrico Fermi asked this simple yet profound question, now known as the Fermi Paradox. In a universe with billions of stars and planets, why haven’t we encountered any signs of alien life? It’s a mystery that has baffled scientists and dreamers alike.

One chilling theory comes from Cixin Liu's novel The Dark Forest. Imagine the universe as a vast, shadowy forest. Every civilization is a hidden hunter, terrified of revealing its presence, knowing that discovery might lead to destruction.

In the story, survival is the ultimate law. Civilizations, just like animals in the wild, compete for limited resources. They can never truly trust one another. Even peaceful civilizations could become threats. So, in this "Dark Forest," the first rule is simple: if you see another, you must strike before they strike you.

It’s a terrifying idea. A universe where silence is the only way to survive, and every alien species is a potential enemy. It’s not just about living — it’s about staying hidden and being ready to destroy anyone who might discover you first.

But this theory isn’t just science fiction; it reflects how we sometimes act on Earth. Nations fight over resources, mistrust fuels conflicts, and people often act out of fear. The Dark Forest mirrors our own struggles with security, competition, and survival in a world that often feels hostile.

What if there’s another way to see the universe? The Bible offers a more hopeful vision. In Genesis, God looked at creation and called it "very good." The heavens, Psalm 19 says, proclaim the glory of God. Instead of a dark, dangerous place, what if the universe was designed for life, peace, and beauty?

Imagine the cosmos not as a battleground, but as a place where life could coexist. Just as humanity has achieved remarkable cooperation, maybe civilizations across the stars could too. In the end, how we see the universe might reveal more about us than it does about them — a reflection of our own hopes, fears, and the potential for something better.
