Science meets art.
Hi, I'm Laci, a planetary astrophysicist who went rogue. I studied clouds in brown dwarf and exoplanet atmospheres then I said bye to academia and started an art business. All my paintings are inspired by space and science.

Most of my paintings are science-y, but every once in a while I like to add a touch of whimsy. I felt compelled to paint Rocky from Project Hail Mary in a field of dandelions. Amaze!
I’ve been working like crazy and haven’t recorded much lately so sorry lol. But I’ll be back to working on oil paintings soon and promise to film more science + art videos! ⭐️

40 Eridani is a triple star system ~16 light years from Earth. One of the stars, 40 Eridani A, is a K-type star less luminous than our Sun. That’s real life. In sci-fi, a planet orbits that star called Erid. Rocky’s home world from Project Hail Mary and the subject of this painting.
BUT ALSO in sci-fi, a planet orbits that star named Vulcan. Wait a second. Eridians & Vulcans are neighbors! That is something fun I discovered while painting this. I am a huge Star Trek fan and planetary astrophysicist, but I never realized where Vulcan was lol smh

12,217 new Artemis II photos were posted on NASA’s website! Here are some of my personal favorites. I love how they capture the human experience beyond Earth. Fleeting, imperfect, beautiful.
Here’s the link with directions so you can find your favorites too! Best viewed on a pc. Give it a sec to load.

Project Hail Mary was visually stunning & tickled both my science + art brain perfectly! Had to stop work on my oil paintings this week to paint a couple acrylic minis inspired by the movie. Gotta ride the creativity wave when it happens! I want to paint a couple more 🫣. Soooo many people asked, so I’ll do some prints when I finish.

This painting may look like kid art, but I still snuck in some science 🤓. I chose the colors for Earth’s atmosphere based on a real image taken from astronauts aboard the ISS. Today I worked on the shadows between these sections. Starting to look like paper!
I think it took me a couple hours today for just those shadows because it requires blending a gradient of ~3 colors with tiny brushes in a very small area. So far so good!

I have…so many paintings in the works right now lol. All space themed of course, from a toilet paper roll space shuttle to a Baja Blast! I’m waiting on a tool for my next multi-spectral painting (hint: Pismis 24).
Soon I will have enough $$ saved up to finish fabric Jupiter! Many of you joined me from that video. I am also considering getting a small camera to wear during painting to film POV time lapses & post long-form videos. Idk though. Would that be fun? I might fidget too much to strap a camera to my head 🫣

I started this painting today! This is about 3 hours of work & the first layer. Sorry I totally forgot to record anything this week, which explains my lack of videos 😅
