When you travel around the world constantly, every time you visit a place new to you, it changes your perspective.

But often, as a travel video creator, no matter how hard you try to get to know a place, there’s always gonna be more.

When it comes to the place you were born and raised — your home country or countries — it’s different.

As a visitor, you’ll always be shown a certain side of a place; something that can slowly be peeled back the more you get to know where you are. But when it’s your homeland, the opposite happens.

As a kid in the US, I overheard tourists vaguely discussing how amazing the Grand Canyon and the massive desert were. I knew Hawaii existed on the map, my dad had even visited, but conceptually, it seemed a world away — still a place waving the US flag, though. When I really thought about it, outside of places I had lived — Atlanta, Northern Virginia, New York City — everywhere else in the US somehow seemed like just another fragment of national identity. Maybe worth visiting, maybe not — but it always felt familiar. Or so I thought.

When you travel for a living, you get used to the feeling of being an outsider looking in. But traveling in your own country forces you to realize something “wild” as folks on the West Coast put it to me: you can be a visitor in the very place that raised you. And you can be a local too.

Living abroad, I’ve spent years going back to the US to get to know it better. And I’m excited to finally share that with you in video format. When I say the US isn’t what you think, it’s not an accusation or absolute statement. It’s an invitation for you to rediscover it with me, because every time I visit, I realize it wasn’t what I thought — over and over again.

The new US video is live now, I hope you enjoy it! 🇺🇸 https://youtu.be/YlaSxl3WtZU

Been hard at work filming a new series for you. A little tired, but a lot energized by the fascinating stories and interesting places I’ve been in exploring. Look forward to sharing this with you soon, but first, I’ve got an extra side mission on the way home!

Hey everyone! Just a heads up—I've officially joined Bilibili! My only official account is DavidGTravels.

Several low-quality accounts like 'Soleil-JJ' and 'Bo Ai-Lan' have been re-uploading (stealing) my videos getting millions of views, obviously without permission. I am currently working to have these stolen videos and low-quality accounts removed. Once that's taken care of, I plan to also upload my videos there for you. Thanks for the support as I continue growing — and if you see me on Bilibili not under DavidGTravels, report it!

I thought I knew what China was going to be like. I was completely wrong.

From the world's fastest trains in Shanghai to the deep tropical south... I documented the entire 7-day journey. The truth is, it’s nothing like the headlines would make you think... and wait until you see how much we spent at the end of the trip,

The full feature-length documentary is out now!
