So another rail era is about to end this time up in Tyneside for the old Class 599s on the Tyne & Wear Metro

Its final passenger services are due to finish tomorrow evening ending a career of nearly 46 years of service since they first began back in August 1980

Now of course that some of the 599s whilst they finish tomorrow they will still hang around for a few weeks in the sidings and yards before going for scrap in County Durham which they will be recycled.

However the good news is that Three Units are being retained with two going for Preservation works whilst one is being retained for use for the Tyne and Wear Fire Rescue Service as a Training Asset.

Here's My take on this is not much on paper and here's why

Whilst I haven't had the chance to visit Tyneside itself to see what they were like however in a way if I was to give a comparison then you could say of a similar situation with what London's DLR system would develop overtime when that began 7 years later in July 1987

Whilst I don't know much about the rail system around Tyneside apart from the only time last July when I was travelling to and from Edinburgh on Lumo on the ECML when went through Newcastle.

The Tyne & Wear Metro on paper at first was not only a separate system which may have started as a Light Rail system with 15kv AC system which is German practice compared to the 25kv AC which is normal system for UK mainline but overtime it grew.

Its bit a Merseyrail when that started 3 years earlier in 1977 it started off as a small operation but in time as development grew and capacity grew it eventually would become more than that.

Tyne & Wear Metro is similar started out just like the DLR would do as a Light Rail System but in time it grew more and more to the point its not really a Light Rail system anymore but its own built up network.

Unfortunately as Merseyrail found out with their 507s and 508s as time goes by as capacity rises and the fleet ages it eventually becomes more difficult to maintain and keep up with the demand.

Its similar with Tyne and Wear with the 599s which been replaced by the 555s and whilst you can question the quality of Stadler in terms of interior however in a way 555s were needed to keep up with the demand of today and time has to move on

My final point is that I would want to give a mention about someone who in a way played a key role to getting the Tyne and Wear Metro to reality from the design phase.

That person is former civil Engineer the Late Professor Tony Radley

Unfortunately he passed away back on May 1st this year at the Age of 92

Sadly he never got the chance to see his first train that operated on the T&W system say farewell for the final time.

The reason why I wanted to mention it is because he wasn't just a professor or civil engineer because locally in Tyneside he was known for being 'The Father of the Tyne & Wear Metro'

He serve during his career as Director General from 1968 to 1975 as well as overseeing the planning, securing the funding needed to begin construction of the early era of the Tyne & Wear Metro in 1974.

After he got T&W metro on the go he would from 1975 after leaving from the Passenger Transport Executive to have a respectable career

Serving the first ever Managing Director for the Hong Kong Metro, became a Manager of the London Underground in the late 1980s as well as serving as President of the institution of Civil Engineers and becoming a Emeritus Professor at Imperial College London respectively

Without the late Professor Tony Radley back at the time getting the early phase of the Tyne & Wear Metro from the late 60s to mid 70s going then there probably wouldn't be a Tyne & Wear Metro.

As for the 599s whilst their era ends and the 555s take over, however nearly 46 years of memories will live on for the people of Tyneside but also leaves a marking legacy on the Tyne & Wear Metro.

So whats your take on the 599s on the Tyne & Wear Metro and what do you think is their legacy they will leave behind?

Leave your thoughts in the comments below

So for now take care and have a good one

Eveniing all

As some will know that news broke at about 6:30pm this evening of the events that took place on the Midland Mainline

So this evening at 5:12pm two trains were involved in a collision on the down fast line of the Midland Mainline just to the South of Bedford near the village of Elstow

One Train was 810015 on 1B67 on the 1550 from Nottingham to London St Pancras which at the time was running 18 minutes late.

The other train involved was with 360115 on 1H46 the 1640 from Corby to London St Pancras.

At 21:19 in a statement by the British Transport Police it has been confirmed that One person which was driver of the train from Corby sadly perished in the accident with many others injured.

The accident investigation will be led by investigators from the RAIB (Rail Accident Investigation Branch) to make sure they document the facts into what happened

Any rail investigation by the RAIB will take time which will require both physical evidence from the accident site with both trains involved, onboard data recorders that most modern trains do carry as well as any other possible factors like the signalling.

I would say to anyone that its not the time to speculate freely on what might have happened.

The only thoughts that are important at this time is to all those people the passengers and crew that have been caught up in this accident.

My condolences go out to the friend and family of the person who sadly passed away in the accident and to all those who have been injured.

I will leave it there for this evening

So for now be safe, be respectful, be kind to each other and take care

So as this channel Is about to hit 4500 subscribers its still hard to believe it even got to this point

My trainspotting began 9 years ago on Thursday June 15th 2017 at a small station of Roydon on the West Anglia Main Line

And it wouldn't be until over 3 weeks later when I started out this channel which was July 11th

How did it start?
Well started out as a nobody and very late especially it was 3 years after I finished degree

What was the aim to begin with?
Well nothing to be realistic because at the time when it came to doing trainspotting for starters I had absolutely no idea what I was getting myself in for

Started out with nothing basic but an outdated iPhone 6s

Quality of my early videos wasn't that great but looking back on it its like when you start something new from scratch you have to expect your not going to be great for starters.

Its like learning to drive its much more difficult than it looks and a lot to learn and thats just the practical side of it.

Trainspotting is a bit similar in a way because If you expect your content to be solid at the beginning well thats not going to be the case

To be good at it takes a lot of time, quality, research and discipline

The Discipline side when I do spotting at any station I go to I do take very seriously especially on the safety side of things and that is something very important wherever you travel.

I don't and never will say I am one of the best because for me is just nothing more than be complacent and there are far more bigger and better channels out there better than mine.

So thats an update at where things are at

Anyway nearly reaching 4500 subs and the next milestone is 5000 subs although I do concede that is going to be a tall order to reach but will see how things go

For those who have subbed to my channel thanks so much for the support for nearly 9 years and I will do the best I can to produce as high quality content as possible.

So for now take care and have a good one
