Rewatch With Rooster

Rewatch with Rooster

You’re watching the movie. I’m watching everything outside the frame.

Locations or death.

I’m a former Directors Guild of Canada member who spent 15 years in the trenches of “Hollywood North” — working film and television in Toronto from the mid-90s through 2010.

When I rewatch movies, I don’t just see the story.
I see the locked-up streets, the hidden crew, the lighting rigs in windows, the negotiations with homeowners, and the chaos it takes to make a single shot work.

On this channel, I break down films from a real locations department perspective — showing you what it actually takes to get a scene from script, to street, to screen.

If you’ve ever wondered how movies are really made… you’re in the right place.

Rewatch With Rooster

Digging through the Rooster archives and found this in my studio — a real Callahan Auto oil filter prop from Tommy Boy.

Back then, if a movie needed a factory full of filters, boxes, labels, and background detail… you built it. No CGI shortcut. Just practical movie-making.

Tommy Boy also has a strange little connection to my own film journey — and to Chris Farley.

I have something very special connected to Farley that I’ve never shown on the channel. It deserves to be shown with respect, so I’m saving the full story for the right episode.

Would you guys want a Tommy Boy episode on Rewatch with Rooster?

There’s more in the Rooster archive than I remembered.

Rewatch With Rooster

Following up on the request for more set pics! Here are a few from other Toronto productions. It’s always a scramble to stay ahead of the camera, but I managed to grab these while the crew was setting up. This was a shoot out we did on a show called Blue Murder. Filmed at Hillcrest Motel in Toronto.

Recognize this setup? This was the final few days of production for Dawn of the Dead. We had to 'cheat' these shots on the studio backlot because we didn't get them at Ashbridge's Bay before blowing up CJ in the bus. Sometimes the magic happens in the recovery.
